Yale electric locks for gates and doors

Yale access control in Oman means the locking end of the system rather than the reading end — the part that physically holds a gate or door shut and releases it when a reader, keypad, intercom or gate control board tells it to. Why a rim lock rather than a magnetic lock

A magnetic lock needs a flat frame to sit against and a bracket to suit the way the door swings. A rim lock does not — it mounts on the surface of the door or gate and works where a maglock has nothing to hold onto.

The Yale unit is also a straight swap. It uses the same fixing holes as common rim locks, so replacing a failed lock rarely means drilling a new pattern. On a metal gate that matters, because re-drilling means grinding, priming and painting.

The handing problem, solved

Most electric locks make you specify handing when you order — left-hand inward, left-hand outward, right-hand inward, right-hand outward. Get it wrong and the lock goes back.

The Yale rim lock uses a reversible bolt and roller latch, so one unit covers all four. You do not have to measure anything or describe which way your gate opens before buying, which is why we keep it on the shelf rather than ordering to handing.

Night mode and free mode

Two settings worth knowing before you fit it. Locked, or night mode, is the normal state — the door stays secured and opens only on a valid signal or a key. Passage, or free mode, holds the latch open so the door swings freely without releasing each time.

Free mode is what you want on a shop entrance during trading hours or a compound gate during a delivery, and it saves the lock thousands of cycles it would otherwise burn through.

Wiring it into what you already have

An electric lock on its own does nothing. It has to be wired to whatever decides who gets in — a card reader or keypad, a video door phone, or the control board of an existing swing or sliding gate motor, plus a 12 V supply.

That is the part most people buying a lock online do not account for. We supply the lock, the power supply and the reader together, and wire the three of them into your gate or intercom in one visit rather than leaving you to find an electrician afterwards.

Common questions

Will this fit my gate?
Almost certainly. It mounts on the surface, works on wood, aluminium and steel, and the reversible bolt means handing is not a factor. Send a photo of the gate and the existing lock if you want it confirmed first.

Can it replace the lock I already have?
Usually straight across — it uses the same hole pattern as common rim locks, so no new drilling on the gate frame.

Can it be opened with a key as well?
Yes. Mechanical key override is the point of a rim lock over a maglock — the door still works when the power or the reader does not.

Do you wire it to an intercom or a gate motor?
