BT or AC, the letter that decides your BFT sliding gate motor

This is the most common ordering mistake on the whole BFT range, and it costs people a return.

BT is a 24V motor. It accepts backup batteries, so the gate still opens during a power cut. It also runs cooler and handles frequent use better, which matters on a compound gate that cycles all day.

AC is a 230V mains motor. There is no battery option. In an outage the gate is released by key and pushed by hand. It is the cheaper route on a villa gate that opens a few times a day.

In Oman that choice is practical rather than theoretical. If your compound loses power and thirty cars are waiting behind a 1500 kg gate, the 24V option pays for itself once.

Kit or motor only, what a BFT sliding gate opener kit includes

Most listings on this page are kits. A kit is built around the operator plus the control board and the parts needed to commission it, where motor only is the operator alone for a replacement on a working system.

Buy motor only when your existing board, photocells, rack and remotes are healthy and it is the gearbox that has failed. Buy the kit for a new gate, or when the existing electrics are old enough that you would be replacing them within the year anyway.

BFT DEIMOS sliding gate motors for villa and compound gates

DEIMOS is the workhorse of the range and covers most Omani villa and compound gates, from 400 kg through 800 kg. It is a compact operator with a straightforward board and parts we hold in stock.

DEIMOS ULTRA is not simply a bigger DEIMOS. It uses a different control board and a revised gearbox, so an ULTRA and a standard model at the same 600 kg rating are not interchangeable when you are replacing one part rather than the whole operator. BFT ARES sliding gate motors for 1000 kg and 1500 kg gates

ARES is the intensive duty line and starts where DEIMOS stops. A1000 and A1500 are built for gates that run constantly, which is why they suit compound entrances, staff car parks and small industrial yards rather than a single villa.

Duty class is the reason to move up, not just weight. A 900 kg gate opening a hundred times a day is a harder job than a 1400 kg gate opening four times, and the published weight rating does not tell you that.

Heavy industrial BFT sliding gate motors, ICARO and SP3500

ICARO SMART AC A2000 covers gates to 2000 kg and the SP3500 goes beyond it to 3500 kg. These are industrial machines for yard gates, logistics sites and factory entrances, and they need a proper foundation and a supply sized for them.

At this size we survey before quoting. Gate weight is only part of it, because the rail, the rollers and the ground under the operator all have to carry a load that a villa gate never applies.

Rack, photocells and the parts a BFT sliding gate motor does not include

The rack is the single most forgotten item. BFT sliding operators run on module 4 rack, and rack runs the full length of the gate leaf, not the width of the opening. A 6 metre leaf needs 6 metres of rack even if the gap it closes is 4 metres.

How to size a BFT sliding gate motor for your gate

Four numbers decide it, and the brand name is not one of them.

• Gate weight. Treat every rating as a ceiling, not a target. A gate that sticks when pushed by hand will not run better under a motor.
• Leaf length. This sets your rack length and it is measured on the leaf, not the opening.
• Duty. Four cycles a day and a hundred cycles a day are different machines.
• Voltage. BT for 24V and battery backup, AC for 230V mains only.

Wind is the fifth factor nobody mentions. A solid sheet gate catches wind like a sail and that load lands straight on the pinion, so size up where the infill is solid rather than barred instead of sitting on the published limit.

Sand, salt and heat, fitting a BFT sliding gate motor in Oman

Blown sand is what kills sliding gates here, and it does not attack the motor first. It packs into the rack teeth and the bottom track, the gate stiffens, the operator works harder against it and the gearbox pays for the track nobody swept.

Coastal sites in Sohar, Sur and Salalah add salt to that, which corrodes the rack fixings and the foundation bolts. Inland at Nizwa and Duqm the problem is dust and summer heat, and a 230V AC operator running repeatedly in July will reach its thermal cutout sooner than the same gate would in February.
