BFT swing gate motors for villa, compound and commercial gates

We hold twenty BFT swing gate motors at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat, covering leaves from 1.8 m to 5 m and weights to 800 kg, all fitted by our own engineers. BFT is the range we reach for when a gate is heavy, when the pillars are awkward, or when the entrance cycles enough times a day to punish a lighter motor. Choosing a BFT swing gate motor by leaf width

Measure one leaf, not the whole opening, then weigh it. The table sorts our BFT range by what each model actually carries.

Two lines sit outside the table. The E5 BT A18 is a compact articulated arm for pedestrian gates to 1.8 m, and it fits pillars as narrow as 80 mm. The ELI AC A40 and ELI BT A40 are in-ground operators for leaves to 4 m and 500 kg, with the motor buried and nothing visible at the hinge. Both are quoted on request rather than listed.

A higher model number does not mean a stronger motor

On a BFT operator the digits give the maximum leaf length, not the strength. The two are traded against each other, and on some models the trade is steep.

ATHOS AC A25 takes a 2.5 m leaf weighing up to 700 kg. ATHOS AC A40 takes a 4 m leaf, but only to 400 kg. Same family, longer reach, far less weight — because the load at the fixing grows with the leaf. GIUNO ULTRA BT A50 shows the same thing more sharply: BFT rates it at 5 m or 800 kg, but at 800 kg the leaf can only be 2 m, and at 5 m it can only weigh 300 kg.

So if your gate is short and heavy, the A25 is both the correct motor and the cheaper one. If it is long and light, the A40. Reaching for the higher number because it sounds stronger is the most common mistake we correct at survey.

AC or BT — 230 V or 24 V?

BFT puts the answer in the model name. AC is 230 V. BT is 24 V.

230 V costs less and is right for a household gate that opens a few times a day. 24 V adds D-Track obstacle detection, smoother slowdowns at each end of the travel, and the option of a backup battery. Specify it for a compound entrance, a shopfront, or any gate cycling all day.

Two more letters worth knowing: AL and AR mean motor-left and motor-right, so a double gate takes one of each, and ULTRA marks the generation with a covered worm screw — which is the version to ask for on any site that gets dusty.

We survey the opening first, measure pillar depth and check where power can run, then fit the operators, set the limits and force on the THALIA or ALTAIR board, add photocells and pair the Mitto remotes. A double gate is most of a working day.

Common questions

What do A25, A40 and A50 mean on a BFT motor?
The maximum leaf length in metres — A25 is 2.5 m, A40 is 4 m, A50 is 5 m. It is not a strength rating, and on the ATHOS line the shorter model carries the heavier gate.

My old motor says PHOBOS BT A40. What do I order?
The same string, and check whether the casing says AL or AR. Send us a photo of the label on WhatsApp and we will match it exactly, including the control board if that has failed too.

Which BFT model suits pillars 300 mm deep?
An articulated arm rather than a ram. IGEA BT is rated for pillars up to 300 mm and opens to 125°; VIRGO SMART handles up to 235 mm. A ram on a pillar that deep will bind.

Can you supply BFT boards and spares separately?
