Motors for shopfront, warehouse and garage rolling shutters

We stock side motors for rolling shutters from 300 kg up to 2,000 kg, supplied from our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat and fitted anywhere in Oman by our own engineers. Shutter weight is the figure that decides everything – a motor sized to the shutter it actually has to lift will run for years, and one sized optimistically will burn out its first summer.

Choosing a rolling shutter motor by weight

Get the shutter weight from whoever fabricated it. If nobody knows, we can estimate it from the slat type, width and drop at survey. Guessing is how motors fail.

Size up rather than down where the figure sits near a boundary. A motor running at 90% of its rating in Omani summer heat has no margin left.

Side motor or tubular motor?

A side motor mounts on the end of the shutter barrel and drives it through a chain or direct coupling. It handles the heavy weights, it is straightforward to service, and the manual override chain is accessible from the ground. This is what most commercial and industrial shutters use, and it is what we stock.

A tubular motor sits inside the barrel itself. It is neater and quieter, but it tops out at much lower weights and replacing one means dismantling the shutter. Suited to light domestic roller shutters rather than shopfronts.

If your shutter is over about 300 kg, a side motor is the only sensible answer.

Remotes, receivers and manual override

Shutter motors ship without control gear. You will need a receiver and at least one handset — our shutter remote controllers run at 433 MHz with a range of around 50 metres, enough for a shopfront or yard.

Every motor we supply includes a manual override chain. Power cuts are a fact of life, and a shutter you cannot open by hand is a shutter that keeps you locked out of your own premises.

Repair and replacement

We repair shutter motors as often as we fit new ones, including units we did not supply. The failures we see most are worn limit switches, a seized manual override, a failed capacitor, and motors that were undersized from the start.

Bring the faulty unit to Al Khuwair, or we will come out to you. If a motor turns out to be beyond economic repair we will say so rather than quote you for a rebuild that costs more than a replacement.

Installation across Oman

A shutter motor swap on an existing barrel takes two to three hours. A new installation on a newly fabricated shutter takes longer, since the barrel has to be checked for straightness and the limits set from scratch.

We check that the shutter runs freely in its guides before fitting anything. A shutter binding on a bent guide will destroy any motor you attach to it, and no motor is a substitute for straightening the guide. Delivery and fitting cover Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, Salalah, Sur and Duqm.

How much does a rolling shutter motor cost in Oman?
The 1,000 kg side motor is OMR 209. Smaller and larger units are priced by capacity. Fitting is quoted separately after a survey.

My shutter motor has stopped. Can it be repaired?
Usually yes. Limit switches, capacitors and control boxes are all replaceable, and we hold them in Muscat.

Can I open the shutter during a power cut?
Yes. Every motor includes a manual override chain. If yours has seized, that is a common and quick repair.

How do I know what my shutter weighs?
Ask the fabricator. If that is not possible, we can estimate it at survey from the slat type, width and drop.
