Description
The Nice RB1000 is the Robus 1000 from Nice: a 1000 kg sliding gate motor with its control unit built in, for gates up to 12 m long. This Nice sliding gate motor is irreversible, runs from 230V mains, opens at 0.28 m per second, and can take a PS124 battery so the Nice Robus keeps working in a power cut.
The 1000 kg sliding gate motor is sold with its RBA3/C control unit. Remotes, a radio receiver, photocells and the rack are chosen to suit your gate and quoted separately.
What is the Nice Robus RB1000?
Nice describes the Nice Robus range as irreversible electromechanical gearmotors for automating sliding gates. Irreversible means the gate cannot be pushed open by hand while the motor is locked, so it stays shut without an extra lock. A key releases the motor for manual use when needed.
The Robus 1000 has its RBA3/C control unit inside the motor housing, with terminals for photocells, a flashing light, a key selector and open and close commands, a 24V output for accessories, and a socket for a Nice SMXI or OXI radio receiver.

Is a 1000 kg sliding gate motor right for your gate?
A 1000 kg sliding gate motor suits most heavy villa gates, compound gates and light commercial gates in Oman. The manual rates the Nice RB1000 for gates up to 1000 kg and 12 m, with 50 cycles an hour on gates up to 4 m and 25 cycles an hour on gates up to 8 m.
| Your gate | Our advice |
|---|---|
| A villa gate up to 600 kg | The RB1000 works, but the lower priced RB600 may be enough |
| A heavy steel gate from 600 to 1000 kg | This 1000 kg sliding gate motor is the right choice |
| A gate close to 1000 kg on a busy site | Ask us, a heavier motor may last longer |
| A gate over 1000 kg or 12 m | Choose a heavier motor |
The Nice severity index: why Oman conditions matter
The Nice manual estimates the life of the Robus between 20,000 and 250,000 cycles, depending on a severity index. It adds points to that index for conditions that are normal in Oman:
| Condition in the Nice manual | What it means here |
|---|---|
| Ambient temperature above 40°C | Most of the summer, in most of Oman |
| Presence of dust and sand | Almost every site |
| Presence of salinity | Coastal sites in Muscat, Sohar, Sur, Salalah and Duqm |
| Manoeuvres interrupted by photocells or stop | Busy compounds and shared gates |
That is why we size the Nice sliding gate motor with margin, keep the gate wheels and track in good order so the motor never strains, and service it more often on coastal and sandy sites.
Nice RB1000 or RB600: which Nice Robus to choose
| Nice RB600 | Nice RB1000 | |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum gate weight | 600 kg | 1000 kg |
| Maximum gate length | 8 m | 12 m |
| Power | 515 W | 450 W |
| Speed | 0.31 m per second | 0.28 m per second |
| Peak torque | 18 Nm | 27 Nm |
| Cycles per hour, gate up to 4 m | 40 | 50 |
The Robus 1000 is the stronger, more hard working of the two, with more torque and more cycles an hour, for longer and heavier gates.
Remotes, photocells and battery backup for the Nice sliding gate motor
- Radio: the control unit of this Nice sliding gate motor has a socket for a Nice SMXI or OXI radio receiver, which pairs with Nice remotes.
- Safety: terminals for a pair of photocells, a key selector and safety edges, as the manual shows.
- Warning: an output for a flashing light with aerial.
- Battery backup: the Nice PS124, a 24V 1.2 Ah battery with built in charger, lets the Nice Robus complete manoeuvres in a power cut.
- Solar: Nice lists the Solemyo solar power system for sites without mains power.
- Automatic closing: the pause before the gate closes by itself can be set from 5 to 180 seconds.

How we install the Nice Robus RB1000
- We cast a concrete base with the Nice foundation plate, level and in line with the gate, with conduits for the cables.
- We fix the motor and set the pinion 1 to 2 mm below the rack, as Nice requires, so the gate weight never rests on the motor.
- We fix the rack along the full length of the gate.
- We set the open and close limit switch brackets on the rack, then move each one a further 2 cm past the click, as the manual shows.
- We connect the photocells, flashing light and receiver, run the learning cycle and set the force and pause time.
