Choosing between 180 kg and 280 kg

Holding force is about resistance to a shove, not door weight. A quiet internal office door is fine on 180 kg. A public entrance, a door onto a car park, or anything a delivery driver will lean on wants 280 kg.

Pick on exposure rather than size. The busier and more public the door, the more force you want behind it.

What’s included

Lock body, armature plate, fixing screws and a gasket. Mounting brackets and the 12 V power supply are quoted separately.

Fitting a 280 kg magnetic lock

This size is longer and heavier than the 180 kg unit. The frame head needs to be sound, so fix into solid timber, steel or a proper anchor in masonry.

The armature plate must sit square against the magnet face. Any gap costs holding force quickly. Shim the plate rather than forcing the door.

Common questions

Do I need a bigger power supply than for a 180 kg lock?
Usually not for one door. A larger magnet draws slightly more current. Check the total load if you run several locks from one supply.

Will it work on an outward opening door?
Not on its own. Outward opening doors need a Z and L bracket set so the plate meets the magnet correctly.

Is 280 kg enough for a fire exit?
Holding force is not the issue on a fire exit. The release arrangement is, and it must fail open and have a manual override.

Can I fit it to a glass door?
Yes, with a glass door clamp or U bracket. Frameless doors need the right bracket for the leaf thickness.
