An RFID access reader reads a card and passes the number to a controller. It makes no decision of its own and has no relay to release a lock. We stock the RFID access reader in Oman at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat.
This reader does nothing on its own
Wiegand is the giveaway. It names the wiring standard the reader uses to send a card number to something else.
Without a controller behind it, nothing happens when a card is presented. Budget for both or the door stays shut.
Why fit a separate reader at all
Security. An all in one panel mounted outside puts its release wiring on the unsecured side of the door.
Split the job instead. The reader goes outside where cards are presented, and the controller stays inside where nobody can reach it.
Where an RFID access reader is used
Office suites, apartment lobbies, warehouses and clinics. Anywhere the entry point sits outside and the equipment should not.
It also suits a job that will grow. Add readers to the same controller rather than replacing a panel per door.
What an RFID access reader has to match
Two things, and both matter. The card frequency has to match the reader, and the Wiegand format has to match the controller.
Wiegand 26 and Wiegand 34 are the usual formats. Send us your controller model and your cards and we will check both.
Fitting an RFID access reader
The reader mounts beside the door at card height. Run the cable back through the wall to the controller inside.
Keep the cable away from mains runs. Wiegand is a low voltage signal and picks up interference easily.
Common questions
Does it work on its own?
No. It needs a controller to hold the user list and release the lock.
Which controllers will it connect to?
Anything with a Wiegand input, once the format matches. Tell us what you have and we will confirm.
Why not just use an all in one panel?
A panel is simpler and cheaper for one door. A separate reader keeps the release wiring inside, which matters on an exposed entrance.
Can I mount it outdoors?
Check the rating first. Many readers are indoor only, so send us the location and we will advise.
