Description
The Yale electric rim lock is a surface mounted lock released by a low voltage pulse. A key opens it from outside, and the latch works whether the power is on or not. We stock the Yale electric rim lock in Oman at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat.
Why choose Yale over an unbranded rim lock
Yale publishes its specifications. A specifier can put a series number on a drawing, and unbranded stock cannot be matched or replaced years later.
The range also covers several backsets. That means the lock can be matched to your gate rather than the gate adapted to the lock.
Where a Yale electric rim lock is used
Villa side gates, compound wicket gates and metal pedestrian gates. Yale also makes a version for wooden doors, so tell us which you have.
Any device that closes a contact will release it. A card reader, a keypad, an intercom handset or a simple push button all work.
Yale electric rim lock power and release
Yale rates the release at a low voltage pulse of ten watts at twelve volts. That is a modest draw for a lock of this type.
It leaves room on a small 12 V supply for a reader and an exit button. Heavier gate rim locks can take most of a three amp supply on their own.
What’s included
The lock body and striker. Cylinders, keys and cover plates vary by series, so confirm the exact set before you order.
Fitting a Yale electric rim lock
Measure the backset first. That is the distance from the gate edge to the cylinder centre. It decides which series fits.
The lock suits right and left handed gates. Fit the body to the inside face and the striker to the post.
Common questions
Which Yale series should I order?
Send us a photo and the backset measurement. The series decides the backset, the finish and how the lock works from inside.
Is this for a gate or a wooden door?
Yale makes both. Tell us which you have and we will confirm the right one before you order.
Can I open it from inside without power?
Yes. Depending on the series that is a button or a key, and both work with the power off.
Why does it cost more than the unbranded lock?
Published specifications, a named series and parts you can still source in five years.
