D cell parking lock: what 4 to 5 months really means

The supplier states 4 to 5 months per set of cells. That figure comes from the supplier, and we have not tested it. Heat speeds up how fast cells discharge, so a lock on an open slab in a Muscat or Nizwa summer will probably land at the short end.

Put a reminder in your phone for the fourth month and keep a spare set at home. A bay whose lock has gone flat is worse than one with no lock, because the owner cannot tell until the car is already inside or outside.

The listing does not say whether the arm stays up or down once the cells run flat, or how the emergency release works. We confirm both before handover.

Reserved parking space lock Oman: what a raised arm will not stop

A raised arm at 400 mm stops a driver from parking in your bay. It will not stop a car reversing into it, and a hard hit can bend it. The supplier gives a 2000 kg rating without saying what it measures, so we do not treat it as a crash rating.

The lock folds to 75 mm. Most cars drive over that without a mark, but a very low car may scrape, so tell us what you park.

Remote control for a dry battery parking lock

One press raises the arm and one press lowers it. The supplier does not publish a remote range, so we test the range from your usual parking position before we finish. Keep a spare remote, because a lost remote leaves you without a way to lower the arm.

IP67 protects the lock when the compartment is shut. Every cell change opens it, and that is when sand and damp get in. Wipe the compartment and the seal first, fit the cells, then press the cover down evenly until it seats.

Fixing the lock to your bay

The fixing method is not published. A folding lock like this is normally anchored into a concrete slab, and a tiled floor or thin screed may need another fixing. We check what is under the surface before we drill.
