Description

This rolling shutter remote receiver, model FBD-JLM-888, adds wireless open, stop and close control to a shutter motor that currently has none. It works at 433.92MHz on a 220V single phase supply, with open, stop and close buttons on the box itself as well as on the handset.

Two limits decide whether it suits your door. It runs single phase motors only, and its contacts are rated 220V 10A, which is a switching rating rather than a motor rating. Both are explained below before anything else, because both are the difference between a working shutter and a burnt receiver.

It will not run a three phase motor

If your shutter uses a three phase side mounted drive, such as our 2000 KG side motor at 380V, this receiver cannot control it. Three phase motors are switched through a contactor panel with reversing interlocks, not through a single phase relay box.

There is no adaptor and no workaround. Ask us for a three phase control panel instead, and we will quote the panel, the isolator and the push button station together.

10A is a contact rating, not a motor rating

This is the point almost every listing gets wrong, and it is why these receivers fail early. The 10A figure describes what the internal relay contacts can carry continuously. It does not describe what a motor demands at the moment it starts.

A single phase induction motor draws several times its running current for the first fraction of a second while it breaks the curtain away from standstill, commonly reckoned at three to six times. A motor drawing 4A while running can therefore ask for well over 20A at the instant of starting. Relay contacts do not fail gracefully under that. They pit, then they weld, and a welded contact means a shutter that keeps driving after the button is released.

Where the load is near the ceiling we wire the receiver to switch a pair of interlocked contactors, and the contactors switch the motor. The receiver then carries coil current measured in milliamps and lasts for years instead of months. That is a few rials of extra parts and it is how we fit them as standard on any door that runs more than a few times a day.

433.92MHz does not mean your existing remote will pair

Frequency is only the band the two devices talk on. Whether they understand each other depends on the coding, and a fixed code receiver will not learn a rolling code handset even at an identical frequency.

The manufacturer does not state the coding type for this receiver. So bring or name your existing handset and we will test the pairing before you commit, rather than telling you afterwards that a drawer full of remotes is now useless. If it does not pair, matching handsets come from our remote control range.

It does not set your travel limits

The word controller misleads people here. This unit decides when the motor runs and in which direction. It does not decide where the shutter stops.

Stopping is handled by the limit switches inside the motor itself, set mechanically during installation. If your shutter is overrunning at the top or crashing at the bottom, a new receiver will not fix it, and buying one is money spent on the wrong part. That is a limit adjustment on the motor, which we can do as a service visit.

Where to mount it

The box measures 102 by 80 by 35mm and weighs 217g, so it sits easily beside the motor or inside a control enclosure. No IP rating is published, which means treat it as an indoor device.

On an Omani shopfront that matters. Mounted on an outside wall it will take sun, blown dust and coastal salt, and a receiver full of dust fails intermittently in ways that are miserable to diagnose. We mount it inside the shutter box or in a sealed enclosure, with the antenna wire run out and left straight rather than coiled, because a coiled antenna halves your range.

The stated operating range of minus 10°C to plus 70°C is genuinely generous and is not a concern here, even in a hot shutter box in July.

Mains switching on a motor circuit is electrician work, not a plug in job. We wire it, fit contactors where the load needs them, pair the handsets and test both limits under load before we leave.

Frequently asked questions
