Description

This 2000 kg rolling shutter motor is a side mounted geared drive for warehouse, factory and loading bay shutters. Before anything else, check your electricity supply, because it runs on 380V three phase only. If your premises has a normal single phase 240V supply, this motor will not run, and no amount of wiring will make it.

That one line disqualifies most shops, villas and small units in Oman. It is the first thing we ask on the phone, and it is the reason this page opens with it rather than burying it in a table.

Three phase only, and how to check yours in 30 seconds

Look at your incoming distribution board. A single phase supply has one live conductor and one main breaker feeding everything. A three phase supply has three lives, usually a wider main isolator, and often a rotary switch rather than a single lever.

Most warehouses in Rusayl, Sohar Industrial and Duqm are already three phase, which is why this motor exists at this size. Most shopfronts, compounds and villas are not. 2000 KG is the motor’s lift rating, not your door weight

Four motors share this body and differ only by a kilogram figure: 600, 1000, 1500 and 2000 KG. That number is what the motor can raise. It is not a measurement you already have.

Curtain weight comes from three things: the shutter area in square metres, the slat profile, and whether the slats are single skin or insulated. An insulated slat curtain can weigh close to double a plain steel one over the same opening, which is why width and height alone never settle the choice.

Send those five and we will confirm the size in writing. Oversizing wastes money on a heavier drive and a bigger breaker. Undersizing burns the motor out inside a year.

How fast it actually moves, worked from the 3.6 rpm output

Output speed is 3.6 rpm at the shaft. Curtain speed is that figure multiplied by the barrel circumference, so a wider barrel moves the door faster. These are our own calculations from the published output speed, taken at the bare barrel before the curtain builds up.

Real travel is quicker than these figures because the rolled curtain increases the effective diameter as it winds. The point of the table is expectation. This is a heavy industrial drive, not a fast shutter, and a driver waiting at a loading bay will wait minutes, not seconds.

Against the stated 15 minute continuous working time, a 6m door on a 200mm barrel gives roughly five full travels before the motor needs to rest. Plan the traffic around that.

Sizing the electrical supply, and a conflict in the published figures

The source data gives 1350W input and 4.1A rated current at 380V three phase. Those two do not reconcile at a normal power factor. Working backwards from 2450Nm at 3.6 rpm gives about 924W of mechanical output, which fits a 1350W input at the efficiency you expect from a worm gearbox.

That makes 1350W the running input figure and 4.1A a nameplate maximum rather than a steady draw. Size the breaker and cable on 4.1A, not on 1350W. We flag it here rather than picking a side quietly, and we confirm the true figures from the rating plate on the motor we actually supply.

The circuit must be its own three phase way with a local lockable isolator beside the motor. That is required for safe maintenance on any door of this size, and an inspector will look for it.

Heat, and what plus 50°C means in an Omani warehouse

The stated operating range is minus 20°C to plus 50°C. The lower figure is irrelevant here. The upper one is not.

This motor mounts at the side of the shutter, high up, often under an uninsulated metal roof. Roof space temperatures in a Muscat or Duqm warehouse in July sit well above the ambient outside, and the motor is running under load in that air. We check the mounting position for ventilation and shade before we fit, and on the worst buildings we recommend moving the drive lower down the guide rather than accepting the standard high mount.

Safety on a 2000 KG curtain

A curtain of this weight is a serious hazard if it drops. The specification lists overload protection, overheat protection, adjustable limit switches, low noise running and anti fall protection.

Anti fall protection is the one worth pressing on. Some drives of this class use a simple gearbox brake, others use a true centrifugal fall arrestor that grips the shaft if the curtain runs away. Those are not the same device and they do not fail the same way. We confirm which is fitted before installation on any door people walk under.

A manual override is included for power failures, which matters in Oman where a three phase outage can otherwise trap vehicles inside a unit.

Installation, clearance and what is not included

Side mounting needs clear space beside the shutter box for the drive and the chain, and a keyed shaft end the sprocket can seize. Retrofits fail more often on clearance than on torque, so we survey before we quote.
