92mm 450Nm Rolling Shutter Tubular Motor in Oman

Description

This 450Nm rolling shutter motor is the top of the 92mm tubular range, built for the heaviest industrial curtains in warehouses, factories and hangars. Two things separate it from the cheaper models, and only one of them is torque.

The second is speed. This motor turns at 7 RPM against 9 RPM on the 330Nm version, so the bigger motor moves your shutter more slowly. Buying up for safety margin is the most common mistake on this product, and it costs you throughput as well as money.

Do not buy 450Nm as a safety margin

Torque is matched to curtain weight and barrel diameter. Once the motor comfortably lifts your curtain, extra torque buys nothing useful. What it does buy is a slower door and a higher bill.

You are paying 58 percent more for 36 percent more lifting force and losing a fifth of your door speed. That is the right trade only when the curtain genuinely needs it. How many openings you get before it rests

The duty cycle is S2 4 minutes, a short time rating. The motor runs up to four minutes from cold, then needs to cool. Because this model is slower, four minutes covers less door travel than the same four minutes on a 330Nm motor.

Curtain speed is 7 RPM multiplied by the barrel circumference. These are our own calculations from the published output speed, taken at the bare barrel before the curtain builds up.

The same 5 metre door on a 150mm barrel gets roughly three and a half travels from the 330Nm motor and closer to two and a half from this one. On a loading bay that cycles through a delivery shift, the cheaper motor is also the more productive one.

Your tube and curtain fixings have a torque limit too

This is the part datasheets never cover. A motor rated 450Nm will apply 450Nm to whatever it is bolted into. If a limit switch drifts and the motor keeps driving at the end of travel, that force goes into the barrel, the curtain fixings and the end plates.

On a shutter originally specified around a 230Nm or 330Nm drive, that can twist the tube or pull the top slat fixings out of the barrel. We check the barrel wall thickness and the curtain fixing method before fitting a 450Nm motor to an existing shutter, and we set and test both limits under load at handover rather than dry.

If you are retrofitting rather than building new, send us a photograph of the barrel end and the top slat fixing. That one check has stopped several expensive mistakes.

92mm is the motor barrel, not your shutter tube

The 92mm measurement is the outside diameter of the motor body that slides inside your roller. Your barrel must be larger than that, and the supplied adaptor set has to match its internal profile.

Domestic and small shopfront shutters in Oman generally run 60mm or 70mm octagonal tube. This motor will not enter them at any torque rating. Measure the inside of the existing barrel before ordering, or send us a photograph of the shaft end and we will confirm it.

Electrical supply in Oman

At 4.20A this motor needs its own protected way and a local isolator within sight of the shutter. Do not spur it off a socket ring shared with workshop machinery, because the starting surge on a heavy curtain will nuisance trip a shared circuit.

It runs on ordinary single phase 230V, which is the practical advantage of the tubular range over side mounted three phase drives. A unit without a three phase connection can still automate a heavy shutter this way.

IP44 and Omani conditions

IP44 covers splashing water from any direction. That suits a motor living inside a shutter box or under a canopy, which is where these sit. It is not a rating for a barrel left in open weather or washed down.

Coastal sites in Sohar, Sur and Salalah carry salt through the shutter box, and factory sites in Rusayl and Duqm carry dust. We check the box seal and the cable entry on every fit, because contamination kills these motors long before the bearings wear.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy the 450Nm instead of the 330Nm to be safe? Usually no. Once a motor lifts your curtain comfortably, extra torque adds nothing, and this model runs 22 percent slower for 58 percent more money. Buy it because the curtain weight demands it, not as a margin.

Why is the 450Nm slower than the 330Nm? The gearbox trades speed for force. This motor turns at 7 RPM where the 330Nm turns at 9 RPM, which is normal across a tubular range and rarely stated on datasheets.

Will it fit my shutter barrel? Only if your barrel is an industrial tube with an internal diameter large enough to take a 92mm motor body. It will not fit the 60mm or 70mm octagonal tubes used on domestic and small shopfront shutters.

How many openings can it do in a row? Roughly two to three full travels of a 5 metre door before the S2 4 minute rating requires a cool down. A door cycling continuously through a shift needs a continuous rated drive instead.

Does it come with controls or a remote? No. The box holds the motor, adaptor set, brackets and manual only. Control panel, receiver, handsets and safety devices are ordered separately and we quote them together.
