Leaf length and weight: is the CAME AXO right for your gate

CAME’s subtitle says up to 5 metres and 400 kg, while its limits table starts at 4 metres and 500 kg and allows shorter leaves to carry more. We treat the table as the safe limit, and we confirm with CAME for a leaf between 4 m and 5 m.

We ask for the weight and the length of each leaf, and we allow for wind on solid sheet.

24V DC swing gate motor: what it changes on site

A 24V motor runs on low voltage from a control board that is fed by mains. It draws 120 W, and up to 10 A on the 24V side, so the cable run from the board to the motor must be sized for that current. The low voltage is safer to handle and suits gates that open often.

500 to 4500 N, adjustable opening time and heavy duty service

CAME lists a thrust range of 500 to 4500 N, which the control board sets for your gate. The opening time to 90 degrees is adjustable, and CAME gives no figure, so we set it on site. The duty is listed as heavy duty service, with no percentage, so we ask CAME for the rating before we recommend it for a gate that runs all day.

Encoder, control boards and CONNECT for the AXO

The encoder lets the board know where the leaf is, slow it near each end and react to an obstacle. CAME names two 24V double leaf boards for this motor.

CAME also describes CONNECT remote control through a gateway or the CAME KEY, and a snap in card slot for the RIO System 2.0. Photocells stop the gate closing on a car or a person, and a safety edge is worth adding where a leaf closes toward a wall or a footpath.

Green Power Module and power cuts on the CAME AXO

CAME lists a Green Power Module, code 806XG-0160, as an accessory, and describes it as reducing energy use while the gate is idle. That is a saving on standby power, not a battery backup. CAME’s page also carries an Italian line saying the 24V unit keeps working in a blackout, but it names no battery and gives no number of cycles.

We confirm what backup is possible with CAME before we promise that your gate opens in a power cut. We fit the manual release where you can reach it, and CAME lists single and double cylinder electric locks that we quote where they are needed.

CAME AXO remotes: the TOP44RBN in CAME’s kit

CAME’s kit includes the 806TS-0270, which is the CAME TOP44RBN, a four channel rolling code remote on 433.92 MHz. A CAME receiver pairs only with CAME handsets, so Somfy, BFT and Nice remotes cannot pair with it. We programme the handsets to the board, and we can add more.

IP44 protects against solid objects and splashing water, and it is lower than IP54 on some other swing motors. The motor works from minus 20 to plus 55°C. We mount it clear of standing water, in shade where we can, and we seal the cable entries. A long, solid leaf catches wind like a sail, and that load lands on the hinges, the arm and the pillar. Coastal sites in Sohar, Sur and Salalah add salt, which attacks pivots first, so keep the hinges greased.
