The CAME FROG-X, CAME code 801MI-0030, is a 24V DC brushless underground swing gate motor for double gates with leaves up to 4 metres long and 400 kg. The motor is buried in a foundation box at the base of each pillar, so no arm or motor shows above ground. CAME lists a 10 second opening to 90 degrees, continuous service, adaptive speed and torque and an IP67 rating.

Three points come first. We supply it as a single motor, so a double gate needs two motors, two foundation boxes and a control board. It is a 24V motor, so it needs a 24V board. And the work needs digging and drainage, so our engineers do it.

4 m leaves and 400 kg: is the CAME FROG-X right for your gate

CAME describes the motor for gates up to 4 metres and 400 kg. Its specification card shows 800 kg and its limits table has the weights blank, so we treat 400 kg as the safe figure and confirm the limit for your leaf before we quote.

We ask for the weight and the length of each leaf, and we allow for wind on solid sheet.

24V brushless underground motor: what changes on site

A brushless motor has no carbon brushes to wear out, so it needs less service and runs more quietly. It runs at 24V DC from a control board that is fed by mains. CAME lists 125 W and a current draw of 15 A, and the two figures do not match, since 15 A at 24V is far more than 125 W. We confirm the real figure with CAME, because it decides the cable size.

10 second opening, continuous service and adaptive speed and torque

CAME lists a 10 second opening to 90 degrees, and the supplier gives a range of 10 to 18 seconds, so we set it on site. The duty is continuous service, with no cycle count, and adaptive speed and torque adjusts the push to the load on the leaf. That suits a gate that opens often.

Foundation box and drainage for the CAME FROG-X

The foundation box is a buried casing that holds the motor and takes the load of the leaf. CAME describes it in steel with an anticorrosive treatment, or in AISI 304 stainless, and the supplier names no code. We confirm the box with CAME before we order.

The box must be set level in the ground, with a drainage path and a cable duct. A coastal site or a driveway that floods needs the stainless version and more preparation, so tell us if yours does. IP67 means the motor is sealed against dust and temporary immersion, and it still needs a clear pit.

Opening to 180 degrees, power cuts and the CAME FROG-X

CAME lists an accessory, 801XA-0040, that lets the leaf open up to 180 degrees. Tell us how far the gate must open, and we quote the accessory if you need it.

CAME also says the unit is set up to operate during a power outage, but it names no battery and gives no number of cycles. We confirm what backup is possible before we promise that your gate opens in a power cut, and we fit a manual release where you can reach it.

CAME control board, CONNECT and safety for the FROG-X

CAME describes a new control board with CXN BUS connectors, a graphic display and four configurable safety inputs for resistive safety edges. It supports CONNECT remote control through a gateway or locally with the CAME KEY, and the supplier names the 801QA-0170 panel. CAME also says it replaces earlier FROG boards directly, which helps if you are upgrading an old FROG gate.

Photocells stop the gate closing on a car or a person, and a flashing lamp warns people before it moves. A safety edge is worth adding on a long leaf. A CAME receiver pairs only with CAME handsets, so Somfy, BFT and Nice remotes cannot pair with it. See the CAME remote controls.
