What 24V means on the BFT Deimos BT A600

The BT in the model name matters. The motor runs on 24V from a 230V control board, so you can fit backup batteries.

With batteries, the gate keeps opening through a power cut. Without them you use the release key, as on any other motor. Either way the option stays open, because an AC model never gives you that choice.

The 24V motor also explains the 70 W draw against 400 W on the mains version. On a gate cycling many times a day, that difference becomes real money.

Slowdown, D Track and intensive duty on the BFT Deimos BT A600

Three specifications here do work that cheaper motors leave to your gate.

Slowdown at both ends eases the leaf into its stops instead of letting it arrive at full speed. As a result, the wheels, the track and the frame survive years of use. It also decides whether the whole street hears your gate at six in the morning.

D Track reads the torque the motor produces, then adapts when the gate meets resistance. A friction clutch simply slips, while a basic system just cuts out. Meanwhile the photocells in the kit protect people, so always wire them and test them.

Intensive duty is the full rating, not the semi intensive one on the AC models. So a compound entrance, a busy workshop or a car park gate sits inside this motor’s designed use.

BFT Deimos BT A600 vs Deimos Ultra BT A600

Both run on 24V and both reach 600 kg, so capacity does not separate them. However, the Deimos Ultra BT A600 adds magnetic limit switches and U Link integration.

Magnetic limits carry no moving contact, so nothing wears or bends. Electromechanical ones drift out of adjustment over years, because a heavy gate shakes the housing at every stop. In fact, drifting limits are one of the most common service calls we attend.

Therefore, if the gate is heavy, busy or awkward to revisit, the Ultra earns the difference. On an ordinary villa gate, though, this motor is the sensible buy.

Deimos BT A600 kit contents, rack length, and what is not included

The kit includes:

• BFT Deimos BT A600 operator with the HAMAL control unit built in
• 2 x BFT Mitto2 remote controls, 433.92 MHz rolling code
• 1 x pair of BFT outdoor photocells

• 4 x nylon rack, one metre each

Check the rack before delivery day. Four metres covers a four metre leaf and no more, because rack runs the full length of the gate leaf rather than the opening width. Nylon suits 600 kg reasonably well. On a solid heavy leaf, however, we would recommend galvanised steel instead.

We stock the BFT nylon rack and the BFT CVZ D571053 steel rack in one metre lengths. Either one must be module 4, so it meshes with this pinion.

The kit does not include:

• Backup batteries
• Rack beyond four metres
• The concrete foundation and its cable ducting
• A keypad or card reader
• Any mains work at the gate position

IP24 and dust, siting a BFT sliding gate motor in Oman

IP24 appears on every BFT slider listing, but nobody explains it. The 4 means the casing resists splashing water from any direction. However, the 2 covers only solid objects above 12.5 mm. In short, that rating carries no dust protection at all.

On a sheltered villa gate in Muscat, that is manageable. On an exposed roadside gate in Nizwa, Sohar or Duqm, though, plan for blown sand. So set the operator clear of ground level, keep the cover seal and cable glands intact, then book a service clean before a fault appears. The 55 C ceiling is real too, so give the unit shade where the site allows.

The groundwork is the job, not the motor. First, pour a level foundation at the correct height and offset. Then run the ducting before the concrete goes down. Next, align the rack so the pinion carries the drive rather than the gate hanging on it. Finally, tune the slowdown to the real leaf weight instead of leaving it at default.

The BT, in almost every case. It runs at 12 m/min against 9, and it has slowdown where the AC has none. It also carries the full intensive duty rating, and it uses D Track instead of a friction clutch. Finally, it draws 70 W against 400 W, takes backup batteries, and costs less.

Can the gate work during a power cut?
