Worth knowing before you choose. These two are mechanically the same operator, and BFT simply warrants them to different weights.

In short, nothing about the behaviour changes. You are not buying a slower or simpler motor here, only a lower warranted capacity and a slightly smaller draw.

Therefore the choice is simple. If your gate sits comfortably under 400 kg, this is the sensible buy. If it sits anywhere near that line, take the Deimos BT A600 for the headroom.

What the BFT Deimos BT A400 gives you

Three things here matter more than the weight rating, because cheaper motors leave all of them out.

A 24V motor. The board takes 230V mains, but the motor itself runs on 24V, so you can add backup batteries. With them the gate keeps opening through a power cut. An AC model never offers that option.

Slowdown at both ends. The leaf eases into its stops instead of arriving at full speed. As a result the wheels, the track and the frame survive years of use, and the gate stays quiet early in the morning.

D Track and intensive duty. D Track reads the torque the motor produces, then adapts when the gate meets resistance. Meanwhile the photocells in the kit protect people, so always wire them and test them. The intensive rating also means a busy compound entrance sits inside the motor’s designed use rather than outside it.

Why the BFT Deimos BT A400 outruns the bigger Ares motors

This surprises people, so it is worth stating plainly. At 12 m/min this motor is faster than the ARES BT A1000, which runs at 9.

The Ares is built for weight rather than speed, and its gearing reflects that. So if you are choosing purely on how quickly the gate opens, a bigger motor is the wrong answer. Buy on gate weight first, then check the speed figure separately.

The kit includes:

Check the rack before delivery day. Four metres covers a four metre leaf and no more, because rack runs the full length of the gate leaf rather than the opening width. Nylon suits a gate at this weight well, so most buyers here will not need to upgrade. Still, we stock the BFT nylon rack and the BFT CVZ D571053 steel rack in one metre lengths. Either one must be module 4, so it meshes with this pinion.

The kit does not include:

IP24 and dust, siting a BFT sliding gate motor in Oman

IP24 appears on every BFT slider listing, but nobody explains it. The 4 means the casing resists splashing water from any direction. However, the 2 covers only solid objects above 12.5 mm. In short, that rating carries no dust protection at all.

On a sheltered villa gate in Muscat, that is manageable. On an exposed roadside gate in Nizwa, Sohar or Duqm, though, plan for blown sand. So set the operator clear of ground level, keep the cover seal and cable glands intact, then book a service clean before a fault appears. The 55 C ceiling is real too, so give the unit shade where the site allows.

The groundwork is the job, not the motor. First, pour a level foundation at the correct height and offset. Then run the ducting before the concrete goes down. Next, align the rack so the pinion carries the drive rather than the gate hanging on it. Finally, tune the slowdown to the real leaf weight instead of leaving it at default.

Sort the gate first, though. A leaf on tired wheels or a fouled track fails long before it troubles this motor, and at 400 kg that margin is thinner than on the bigger models.
