What the two alarms mean

A forced open alarm fires when the door opens without a valid card or an exit button press. That is the signature of someone prising it.

A held open alarm fires when the door stays open past a set time. That is usually a wedge, a delivery, or a door that never latched.

What an access control alarm controller needs to work

A door contact is not optional. Without a magnetic contact on the leaf, the controller cannot tell whether the door is open at all.

You also need an exit button on the inside. Without one, every staff member walking out reads as a forced entry.

Server rooms, stock rooms, pharmacy stores and cash offices. Any door where a wedge or a forced entry needs to be noticed.

Wire the door contact to the monitoring input and the siren or strobe to the output. Set the held open time to suit the door.

A short time on a fire door catches a wedge quickly. A longer time on a goods door stops nuisance alarms during deliveries.

Avoiding false alarms

False forced open alarms are the usual reason these get switched off. Nearly always the cause is a door that binds or a contact set too tight.

Get the door closing cleanly first. Then set the contact gap so normal movement does not break it.

Common questions

Does it replace my access controller?
No. It monitors the door rather than granting access, so it works alongside a reader or keypad such as our access control panel.

Do I have to fit a door contact?
Yes. There is no way to detect forced or held open without one.

Will it alarm every time staff leave?
Not if the exit button is wired to the controller. That press tells it the exit was legitimate.

What does the output drive?
