This kit ships with four one metre lengths of nylon rack. Rack has to run the full length of the gate leaf, not the width of the opening, so four metres suits a gate leaf of about four metres and no more. A five or six metre leaf needs extra rack ordered alongside, and almost nobody tells you that before delivery day.

The material matters as much as the length. Nylon rack is the light duty option. It is quiet and it does not rust, which is why it is packed in kits, but as gate weight climbs towards this motor’s 1000 kg ceiling most installers move to galvanised steel rack instead. If your gate is genuinely heavy, ask us to quote steel rack in place of the nylon before you order.

Whichever you use, it must be module 4 to mesh with this motor’s pinion. Module 6 rack from another job will not engage. Rack and fixings are listed under accessories.

BFT ARES BT A1000 or ARES ULTRA BT A1000, which one you are buying

BFT sells three sliding gate families with names close enough to cause real mistakes. This page is the **ARES BT A1000**, rated to 1000 kg at 9 m/min.

ARES Ultra BT A is a separate current family that reaches 1500 kg and runs faster, quoted by BFT at up to 12 m/min. ARES Veloce is the fast version again. If someone quoted you an Ares and you are not certain which, check the code on the quote against the product code below before paying, because the price gap between them is not small.

ARES BT A is not an end of life range. BFT still lists it alongside Ares Ultra, so buying this is buying a current motor, not old stock.

What the BFT ARES BT A1000 sliding gate motor does on a gate

It is a rack and pinion operator that bolts to a foundation beside the gate and drives the leaf along its track. The motor itself runs on 24V while the control board takes 230V mains, which is the arrangement that makes battery backup possible later.

D Track is BFT’s obstacle sensing. It reads the torque the motor is producing and reacts when the gate meets resistance, adjusting rather than simply cutting out. It protects the gate and the mechanism. The photocells in the kit are what protect people, and they are the part you must never leave unwired.

Slowdown at each end of travel is built in, so a heavy leaf does not slam into the stops. Mechanical locking holds the gate closed without a separate lock, and a personal release key lets you push the gate by hand in a power cut.

IP24 and dust, siting a BFT sliding gate motor in Oman

IP24 is worth reading properly, because it is quoted everywhere and explained nowhere. The 4 means the casing resists splashing water from any direction, which is fine. The 2 means it is protected only against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm. There is no dust protection in that rating at all.

On a villa gate in Muscat or a compound entrance in Sohar that is manageable. On an exposed roadside gate in Nizwa, Duqm or anywhere that takes blown sand, plan for it. Set the operator on its foundation clear of the ground so it is not sitting in drift, keep the cover seal and the cable glands intact, and put a service clean into the calendar rather than waiting for a fault. The upper temperature rating of 55 C is a genuine ceiling too. Give the unit shade where the site allows it.

Gate speed and weight, reading the BFT ARES BT A1000 rating honestly

1000 kg is a ceiling, not a target. It assumes a gate running true on sound wheels and a clean level track. A gate that already needs a shove by hand will not become easy because a motor is bolted to it, and an underrated setup fails at the gate, not at the motor. Sort the track and the wheels first.

Wind is the factor most quotes ignore. A solid sheet infill gate catches wind like a sail, and that load lands on the pinion. Where a gate is solid rather than barred, size up rather than sit on the limit.

On speed, 9 m/min means a six metre leaf takes roughly 40 seconds to open fully. That is normal for a villa. If you run a busy commercial entrance and that wait is the problem you are trying to solve, tell us and we will quote a faster operator from the sliding gate opener range instead.

Not included, and worth pricing in now: backup batteries, the concrete foundation and its cable ducting, additional rack beyond four metres, steel rack if you upgrade, a keypad or card reader, and any mains supply work to the gate position. The 24V motor is what makes backup batteries worth adding. Fitted, the gate keeps opening through a power cut instead of needing the release key every time.

Most of the work on a sliding gate is not the motor. It is a level foundation set at the correct height and offset, ducting run before the concrete goes down, rack aligned so the pinion carries the drive rather than the gate hanging on it, and limits set with the slowdown tuned to the leaf weight.

Is four metres of rack enough for my gate?
Only if the gate leaf is about four metres or shorter. Rack runs the full length of the leaf, not the opening, so a five or six metre gate needs extra lengths ordered with the kit.

Should I use the nylon rack supplied, or steel?
Nylon is the light duty option and is fine on lighter gates. As weight climbs towards the 1000 kg rating, galvanised steel rack is the safer specification, and we will quote it in place of the nylon on request.

What is the difference between ARES BT A1000 and ARES Ultra BT A1000?
They are separate BFT families. This one is rated to 1000 kg at 9 m/min, while Ares Ultra BT A reaches 1500 kg and runs faster. Check the product code on any quote before paying.

Will IP24 cope with dust in Oman?
IP24 gives splash resistance but no dust protection at all. Mount the operator clear of ground level, keep the seals and glands intact, and schedule a service clean if the gate is on an exposed or sandy site.

Does the gate still work in a power cut?
Not on its own, but the motor is 24V so backup batteries can be added. Without them you use the personal release key and push the gate by hand.

Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. It ships with two Mitto 2 transmitters on 433.92 MHz rolling code, and further Mitto units can be added to the receiver at any time.
