CAME lists the motor for gates up to 1800 kg. The feature list gives a maximum length of 20 m, and the technical data gives a leaf width of 9 m, so we treat the shorter figure as the safe one until we confirm.

A heavy gate must roll freely before any motor drives it. Check the track, the rollers and the foundation, because a gate this weight puts a large load on all three.

Module 4 or 6 rack: nylon or steel for a heavy sliding gate

The kit includes a 4 metre nylon rack. The listing gives the pinion as module 4, and also says the motor is available with a module 4 or module 6 pinion. The rack and the pinion must share a module, or they will not mesh.

The rack must run along the full length of the gate leaf, so a longer gate needs more, joined in line. Nylon rack is usually rated for lighter gates than steel, so at 1800 kg we quote steel rack. We confirm the module and the rating before we supply any.

1150 N and 10.5 m per minute: what the figures mean

The motor delivers 1150 N of traction from up to 480 W and 4.2 A on a 230V supply. Traction is the pulling force that moves the gate, and it matters most when the gate starts to roll. The speed is 10.5 metres per minute, so a gate that opens 6 metres takes about 34 seconds.

50% duty and thermal protection on a heavy gate motor

The listing gives a 50% duty rating. The motor can run for about half the time, in cycles with rest between. That is higher than the 30% on the CAME BXL 400 kg, so it suits a busier gate. The motor also has thermal protection, rated at 150°C, which cuts power if it overheats.

CAME BK control board: display, 250 users and safety edges

The integrated board has terminal blocks and a display, and stores up to 250 users, which suits a block or a compound with many residents. Its safety devices are self diagnosing, so a failed photocell does not leave the gate unprotected. The safety inputs can also take 8k2 resistive safety edges, which we recommend on a gate that closes toward a wall or a footpath.

The photocell pair in the kit is Bluebus, CAME’s own bus system. It suits CAME boards. Photocells from another brand are not assumed to connect.

Self locking, magnetic limit switches and the manual release

The motor is self locking, so the gate holds its position when the motor stops. The unit is ready for magnetic limit switches, which are optional and have no mechanical contact to wear. A manual release is needed in a power cut, and the listing gives no battery details, so we do not promise that the gate opens when the power fails.

CAME remote controls: receiver and what pairs

A remote receiver is in the kit, with two remotes. The listing does not state the radio frequency. A CAME receiver pairs only with CAME handsets. Somfy, BFT and Nice remotes cannot pair with it, because each brand uses its own coding.
