The BFT PHOBOS AC A25 is a 230V mains swing gate motor kit for gates up to 400 kg and 2.5 metres per leaf, sold as two matched motors with the RIGEL 6 control board. This is a mains only design, no battery backup option, running on standard 230V power.

It shares its 400 kg rating exactly with the KUSTOS BT A25, but the two are not equivalent products. PHOBOS uses simpler, older technology throughout, reflected in its lower price and the maintenance it needs over time.

PHOBOS suits a lighter use villa gate on a budget. If your gate cycles often, needs battery backup, or you want to avoid floor stops, BFT KUSTOS BT A25 is the better fit despite the identical weight rating.

Work time limit switches, and why they drift over the years

A work time switch stops the motor after a set running duration, calculated for a gate moving at a known speed against a known resistance. It does not sense the gate’s actual position the way a magnetic or encoder based system does.

As the gate ages, hinges stiffen slightly, wind adds resistance, or the track needs lubrication, the same running time no longer corresponds to the same stopping point. The gate can start overrunning or falling short, and the fix is readjusting the timing rather than a mechanical failure. This needs checking periodically in a way magnetic systems generally don’t.

IPX4 and dusty inland sites in Oman

IPX4 covers splashing water from any direction but carries no tested dust ingress rating, unlike IP44 used on several other motors in this range. On a coastal site that difference matters less. On a dusty inland site such as Nizwa or Duqm, or near an unpaved yard, that gap is worth asking us about before committing to this model over a dust rated alternative.

What is the difference between PHOBOS AC A25 and KUSTOS BT A25?

Both are rated for 400 kg, but PHOBOS runs on 230V mains only with a work time limit switch and needs floor stops, while KUSTOS runs on 24V with battery backup capability, a magnetic limit switch and no floor stops.

Does the BFT PHOBOS AC A25 need floor stops?

Yes, unlike KUSTOS, this model’s work time limit switch does not include the adjustable mechanical stops that remove the need for one.
