Two specifications on this motor decide how it behaves when something goes wrong, and neither is explained on any listing we can find.

Obstacle reaction is by mechanical clutch. That is a friction plate set by physical adjustment, not an electronic system reading motor effort. It slips when the gate meets enough resistance, but it does not adapt, it cannot be tuned finely, and its setting drifts as the plates wear. The heavier Deimos AC A800 uses an electronic clutch instead, which is a genuine step up on this point.

There is also no slowdown. The gate reaches its end stops at full speed on every cycle, which puts the impact into the wheels, the track and the gate frame rather than being absorbed.

Put together, that means the photocells in the kit are not an optional extra on this motor. They are the thing protecting people, because the clutch protects the mechanism and reacts only after contact. Wire them, test them, and do not run the gate without them.

The BFT Deimos AC A600 is a 230V motor, so battery backup is not possible

The AC in the model name is the part that changes the machine. This is a 230V mains motor. Every BT model in the BFT range runs a 24V motor from a 230V board, and that is what allows backup batteries.

Here they cannot be fitted, now or as an upgrade later. When the power drops the gate stops and somebody walks out with the release lever. On a villa gate that is an inconvenience. On a business entrance where a cut means vehicles queued in the road, it is the deciding specification.

This is the section worth reading before you buy anything at this weight. We stock three genuinely different BFT sliders rated to 600 kg, and the number on the box tells you nothing about which one suits your gate.

Read it this way. The AC A600 is the budget entry and the right buy on a light gate at a quiet entrance where mains power is never a worry. The Deimos BT A600 adds battery backup, electronic obstacle sensing and a full intensive duty rating. The Deimos Ultra BT A600 adds magnetic limit switches, which do not drift out of adjustment the way mechanical ones do over years of use.

BFT Deimos AC A600 specifications

One note on the power figure. Every source publishes 400 W for this 600 kg motor while publishing 300 W for the heavier 800 kg Deimos AC A800. A smaller motor drawing more power is unusual, so we are showing the published figure and flagging it rather than quietly repeating it. Check the rating plate if the exact draw matters for your supply.

Semi intensive duty on the BFT Deimos AC 600 sliding gate motor

BFT rates this motor for semi intensive use, one step below the intensive rating carried by the BT versions and the Ares range.

A villa gate opening six or eight times a day sits comfortably inside that. A compound entrance serving several apartments, a workshop taking deliveries through the day, or any gate cycling constantly does not. If your gate works hard, the duty class matters more than the weight rating, and it is the most common reason a correctly sized motor still fails early.

IP24 and dust, siting a BFT sliding gate motor in Oman

IP24 is printed on almost every BFT slider listing and explained on none. The 4 means the casing resists splashing water from any direction. The 2 means it is protected only against solid objects above 12.5 mm. There is no dust protection in that rating at all.

On a sheltered villa gate in Muscat that is manageable. On an exposed roadside gate in Nizwa, Sohar or Duqm taking blown sand, plan for it. Set the operator on its foundation clear of ground level so it is not standing in drift, keep the cover seal and cable glands intact, and book a service clean rather than waiting for a fault. The 55 C ceiling is real too, so give it shade where the site allows.

Supplied in the kit:

Check the rack before delivery day. Four metres covers a four metre leaf and no more, because rack runs the full length of the gate leaf rather than the width of the opening. Nylon is the light duty option packed in kits and it is a reasonable match at 600 kg, but on a solid heavy leaf we would still recommend galvanised steel. We stock the BFT nylon rack and the BFT CVZ D571053 steel rack in one metre lengths. Either must be module 4 to mesh with this pinion.

Not included: rack beyond four metres, the concrete foundation and its cable ducting, a keypad or card reader, and any mains work to the gate position. Backup batteries are not an option on this motor at all. Extra transmitters sit under BFT remotes, spare boards and parts under BFT accessories.

The groundwork is the job. A level foundation at the correct height and offset, ducting run before the concrete goes down, and rack aligned so the pinion carries the drive rather than the gate hanging on it.

On this motor the end stops need real attention, because there is no slowdown to take the impact out of them. Buffered stops and a properly trued track are what keep the gate quiet and the wheels alive. The clutch also needs setting correctly at commissioning and checking at service, since a friction clutch drifts as it wears. What is a mechanical clutch and how is it different from an electronic one?
