Solar powered parking lock Oman: does the sun really charge it

Oman is a good place for solar charging, with strong sun most of the year. Two things still limit it. A solar panel only charges in daylight, and a panel on a lock that lies flat in a bay is exposed to two problems.

• If the panel sits on the lock body, a car parked over the folded lock shades it all day
• Sand, dust and tyre dirt settle on a panel at ground level and cut the charge

A covered basement bay gets no sun at all, so a solar lock is a poor match for it. An open driveway bay is a better match. We tell you honestly which fits your space.

The supplier lists a buzzer alarm sound for unauthorised access alerts. The listing does not say what triggers it or how loud it is. We test both on your unit.

The supplier states an operating range of minus 40 to plus 70°C. Our older listing for a similar lock states minus 10 to plus 55°C. We confirm which figure is correct for this unit. A slab in direct summer sun runs hotter than the air, and the battery is usually the first part to suffer.

What a raised arm will and will not stop

A raised arm stops a driver from parking in your bay. It does not stop a car reversing hard into it. The listing mentions a 180 degree anti collision design and says the lock can withstand 2 tons of pressure, but it explains neither. We do not treat either as a crash rating.

The lock folds to 75 mm. Most cars clear that, but a very low car may scrape, so tell us what you park.
