Remote control car parking barrier for reserved bays

This car parking barrier stops other vehicles taking your space. It bolts into the bay itself, runs on a rechargeable battery with no wiring, and raises or lowers by remote in three to four seconds. We stock it at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat and deliver across Oman including Sohar, Salalah, Nizwa and Duqm.

At OMR 40 it does the job a boom barrier does for a single space, at a fraction of the cost and with no foundation work. A boom barrier for a shared lane starts around OMR 300 and needs a concrete base, power and a loop detector. This bolts down in an hour.

Specifications

Heat is the thing to check on any parking lock sold in Oman. A unit sitting on open asphalt in July runs well above air temperature, and the cheap imports on the marketplaces are commonly rated to 50 °C or say nothing at all. Ask for the operating temperature range before you buy anywhere – ours is stated in the table above.

Batteries are not included. Installation is available separately — the unit is straightforward enough that most customers fit it themselves.

Installation

Four expansion bolts into concrete or asphalt. No cable runs, no electrician, no trenching. Most people have it working in under an hour.

Position it toward the rear of the bay rather than the centre. The arm folds to 75 mm when down, so a car can drive over it, but keeping it away from the wheel path extends its life.

If the battery dies or you lose the remote, the barrier can be released manually. It also alerts you when the battery is low, so you get warning rather than being locked out of your own space.

The alarm, and what happens when someone tries it

The barrier has a built-in buzzer. If someone tries to force the arm down, or drives at it while it is raised, it sounds. That is the difference between a parking lock and a wheel clamp or a folding post — you find out at the time, not when you come back to a bent arm.

The arm itself folds through 180° under impact rather than shearing off, so a driver who does not see it damages neither the barrier nor their bumper. It carries 2,000 kg when folded flat, which is more than any car or pick-up you will park on it.

Reserved bays at apartment buildings, villa driveways, office parking, clinic and hospital staff bays, hotel spaces, and any spot where the same car parks daily and other people keep using it.

For a lane that many vehicles pass through, you want a boom barrier instead. This is for protecting one space.

Common questions

How much is a parking lock barrier in Oman?
This one is OMR 40, reduced from OMR 60. That includes the remote. Manual key-operated posts sit lower; solar and app-controlled versions sit higher.

How long does the battery last?
Four to five months of normal daily use on D-cells. The unit warns you when it is getting low, so you get notice rather than being locked out of your own bay.

What happens if someone tries to force it?
The built-in buzzer sounds, and the arm folds through 180° under impact instead of breaking.

Can one remote work several barriers, or several remotes work one barrier?
Both. It pairs one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-one, so a building manager can run a row of bays from one handset, or a family can have three handsets on one bay.

Does it need wiring?
No. It runs on battery, so there is nothing to connect and no electrician needed.

Can I drive over it when it is down?
Yes. It folds to 75 mm and carries 2,000 kg.

Will it survive the summer heat?
It is IP67 sealed against dust and water and rated for outdoor use in Oman. The operating temperature range is in the specification table above.
