A remote needs a receiver behind it

The remote does nothing on its own. Something has to be listening, and on a shutter that is a receiver wired between the supply and the motor.

If your shutter already runs from a remote, you have a receiver and this is a spare or a replacement. If it only has a wall switch, you need the receiver too.
