An electric strike replaces the strike plate in your door frame and releases the latch the door already has. It does not replace the lock, so the door must have a working latch fitted. Most strikes are fail secure, meaning the door stays locked in a power cut while the inside handle still works. Suits timber, metal and aluminium framed doors. In stock in Muscat.

Description

An electric strike lock replaces the strike plate in a door frame, not the lock itself. The door keeps its existing latch and handle. Power releases the keeper so the latch swings free and the door opens. We stock the electric strike lock in Oman at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat.

What an electric strike lock needs to work

The door must already have a latch. A strike releases that latch electrically, so it cannot secure a door that has no lock fitted.

This is the most common misunderstanding on this product. If your door has no latch, you need a magnetic lock or a bolt lock instead.

Fail secure electric strike or fail safe

Most electric strikes are fail secure. The keeper stays locked when power is lost, and the door can still be opened from inside with the handle.

Fail safe versions release on power loss instead. Confirm which you need before ordering, because an escape route has rules about this.

What’s included

The strike body, faceplate and fixing screws. The door lock itself, the 12 V power supply and the release device are separate.

Electric strike for wooden and metal doors

Timber and metal framed doors suit this lock best. The frame is cut out so the strike sits flush behind the faceplate.

Aluminium office doors also take a strike, though the frame section has to be deep enough. Measure the jamb before ordering.

Fitting an electric strike lock

Mark the existing keeper position first. The cutout has to line up with the latch or the door will not close.

Wire the strike back to your controller or exit button. Test the latch engages cleanly before making good around the faceplate.

Common questions

Do I keep the existing door lock?
Yes. The strike replaces only the metal plate in the frame. Your handle and latch stay exactly as they are.

Does the door stay locked in a power cut?
On a fail secure strike, yes. People inside can still leave using the handle, which is what makes it suit offices.

Can I fit one to a pedestrian gate?
Often yes, on a framed gate with a rim lock. Send us a photo of the gate and lock and we will confirm.

Will it work on a frameless glass door?
No. Glass has no frame to cut into. A bolt lock or a magnet with a U bracket is the answer there.
