Description

The BFT EBP is an electric lock for swing gates, running on 24V through a built in 230/24V transformer, rated IP44. It is the lock several of our BFT swing gate pages point to when a leaf runs past the motor’s own safe holding length, including PHOBOS BT B40 past 3 metres and ELI BT A40 past 2.5 metres.

One thing needs confirming before you order. The source does not state whether the bolt mounts into a ground socket, a post, or the gate leaf, only that the transformer and control electronics sit at the control panel.

BFT PHOBOS electric lock: when your gate needs one

Longer leaves put more leverage against a motor’s own lock than a short leaf ever does. BFT specifies an electric lock past a stated length on several of its swing motors, not as an extra security feature but as the thing that actually holds the gate against wind and pressure once closed.

If your leaf sits under those figures, the motor’s own lock is enough and this is not required. If it runs past them, this is not an optional upgrade, it is what makes the installation match the manufacturer’s own rating.

Wiring an electric lock into an existing BFT gate

The lock ties into the control board alongside the motor, timed so the bolt releases before the motor starts opening and re-engages after the gate closes. Getting that timing wrong either stalls the motor against a locked bolt or leaves the gate unlocked between cycles. We set and test this under load at commissioning, not on the bench.

Do I need this lock for my swing gate?

Only if your leaf runs past the length stated for your motor, 3 metres on PHOBOS BT B40 and 2.5 metres on ELI BT A40. Shorter leaves rely on the motor’s own lock.
