The CAME 868.35 MHz remote control is a TOP series transmitter for CAME gate automation, in a two channel version (001TOP-862EE) and a four channel version (001TOP-864EE). It runs on one CR2032 battery, carries a listed range of 50 to 150 metres and has a polycarbonate case. The code can be set to TOP mode or TAM mode.

One point comes first. This handset works on 868.35 MHz only. A CAME receiver on 433.92 MHz will not accept it, so we read your receiver before you buy.

TOP mode and TAM mode on a CAME remote

CAME lists two code settings for this handset. TOP mode gives 4,096 combinations and TAM mode gives 16,777,216. The listing does not call either rolling code or fixed code, so we do not use those words. A higher combination count is harder to guess, so TAM mode is the stronger setting where the receiver supports it.

The receiver and the handset must be in the same mode. We set it when we programme the handset.

A channel is one button, and each channel can run a different gate or function. A two channel handset suits one gate and a pedestrian entrance. A four channel handset suits an entry gate, an exit gate, a garage door and a barrier from one remote.

A new handset must be taught to the receiver before it works. CAME lists a range of 50 to 150 metres. Real range depends on the site. Walls, a metal gate leaf, a parked car and radio noise all cut it down, so the position of the aerial matters more than the handset.

The handset works from minus 20 to plus 55°C. A remote left on a car dashboard in summer can go above that, and the battery loses life faster. Keep it in a bag or on a visor clip, out of direct sun. Weak range usually means a tired battery, so replace the cell first.
