The CAME AXI20DGS, listed by some suppliers as the CAME AXL and carrying CAME code 801MP-0030, is a 24V DC irreversible swing gate motor with an encoder, for double gates with leaves up to 2 metres long and 200 kg. It draws 120 W, opens to 90 degrees in about 15 seconds and carries a 50% duty rating and an IP44 rating. Our twin kit includes everything for a standard double gate.

Three points come first. It is a light motor for small leaves, so we check the weight and the length before we quote. It runs on 24V, so it needs a 24V control board. And CAME names no battery backup for it, so we do not promise that the gate opens in a power cut.

Not included: a safety edge, an electric lock, hinges and the cabling to your supply. We confirm the exact contents of the set before you pay, because CAME’s own kits use different parts, such as a 002ZL65 panel and DIR10 photocells.

CAME AXI20DGS, CAME AXL and CAME 801MP-0030: the same motor

CAME’s own code for this motor is 801MP-0030, with the model name AXI20DGS. Some suppliers sell it under the series name AXL, so you may meet both names. They describe the same 24V motor with an encoder.

2 m leaves and 200 kg: is the CAME AXI20DGS right for your gate

CAME rates the motor for a leaf up to 2 metres and 200 kg. Its limits table also appears to allow 250 kg on a leaf of 1.5 m, but it has no row labels, so we confirm the figure for your leaf. One supplier page says 2.2 m, which CAME does not state, so we treat 2 m as the limit.

We ask for the weight and the length of each leaf, and we allow for wind on solid sheet.

24V DC swing gate motor: what it changes on site

A 24V motor runs on low voltage from a control board that is fed by mains. It draws 120 W, and up to 5 A on the 24V side, so the cable from the board to each motor must be sized for that current. The low voltage is safer to handle and suits gates that open often.

50% duty, an encoder and a 15 second opening

CAME lists a 50% duty rating, so each motor can run about half the time. It fits an encoder, so the board knows where the leaf is, slows it near each end and reacts to an obstacle. The opening time to 90 degrees is 15 seconds, and CAME marks the figure with an asterisk that its page does not explain, so we confirm it on your gate.

Pillar offset, opening angle and fitting the AXI20DGS

The supplier lists an opening angle up to 115 degrees. CAME’s own dimension table shows 90, 60 and 50 degree rows, but it is misaligned and incomplete, so we cannot check your pillars against a number from the page. We measure the pillar offset and the opening angle on site, and ask CAME for the figures.

Send photos of both pillars with a tape across the offset and the depth, and we confirm the fit before you order.

Release, power cuts and the CAME AXI20DGS

The supplier lists a trilobe key release. CAME lists a remote release case with a pull cord and a pull cord remote release as accessories. The motor is irreversible, so the leaf stays shut when the motor stops, and the release lets you open it by hand.

The supplier says the kit is ready for operation during a power outage, and CAME names no battery board for this motor. CAME lists a Green Power Module that reduces energy use at rest, which is not a backup. We confirm what is possible before we promise that your gate opens in a power cut, and we fit the release where you can reach it.

CAME control boards, CONNECT and safety for the AXI20DGS

CAME names three 24V boards for this motor. We choose one for your gate.

The supplier’s board stores up to 25 users. CAME also describes CONNECT remote control and a snap in card slot for the RIO System 2.0. Photocells stop the gate closing on a car or a person, and a flashing light warns people before it moves.

CAME AXI20DGS remotes: the TOP44RBN in CAME’s kits

CAME’s kits include the 806TS-0270, which is the CAME TOP44RBN, a four channel rolling code remote on 433.92 MHz. A CAME receiver pairs only with CAME handsets, so Somfy, BFT and Nice remotes cannot pair with it. We programme the handsets to the board, and we can add more.

CAME AXI20DGS, AXI25DGS or FTX20DGC: choosing a light 24V swing motor

IP44, heat and sand: the CAME AXI20DGS in Oman

IP44 protects against solid objects and splashing water, and it is lower than IP54 on some other swing kits. The motor works from minus 20 to plus 55°C, in RAL7024 grey. We mount it clear of standing water, in shade where we can, and we seal the cable entries. Coastal sites in Sohar, Sur and Salalah add salt, which attacks pivots first, so keep the hinges greased.
