The CAME FROG is an irreversible underground swing gate motor for double gates with leaves up to 3.5 metres long and 400 kg. The motor is buried in a foundation box at the base of each pillar, so no arm or motor shows above ground. CAME’s FROG-A draws 460 W and 1.9 A on a 230V supply, opens to 90 degrees in 18 seconds and carries an IP67 rating.

Three points come first. An underground motor needs a foundation box in the ground, and the boxes are not in our kit, so we quote them with it. We confirm the exact model on the label, because the supplier writes FROG-BN and CAME lists the FROG-A. And the work needs digging and drainage, so our engineers do it.

Not included: the foundation boxes, the release keys, an electric lock and a safety edge. An underground motor cannot be fitted without its foundation box, so we list the boxes and the keys in the quote.

CAME FROG foundation box: 001FROG-CFN or 001FROG-CFNI

The foundation box is a buried casing that holds the motor and takes the load of the leaf. It protects the motor and keeps water out, and it has to be set level in the ground before the motor goes in. CAME sells two versions.

The AISI 304 box suits coastal sites, where salt and damp attack steel. We choose by your location and quote two boxes with the motors.

3.5 m leaves and 400 kg: is the CAME FROG right for your gate

CAME rates the FROG-A for a leaf up to 3.5 metres and 400 kg. Its limits table also appears to allow a heavier leaf if it is shorter. The table has no column labels, so we confirm the figure for your leaf before we quote.

We ask for the weight and the length of each leaf, and we allow for wind on solid sheet. A leaf that is 400 kg in total, not per leaf, is a different case, so we check that too.

Underground swing gate motor: how it works and who it suits

An underground motor turns the leaf from below, at the hinge. The pillar stays clean, with no arm in view, which suits a gate with a design feature or a tall decorative leaf. The motor is buried, so rain, sand and heat reach it less than they reach an arm motor.

The work needs a pit at each pillar, a drainage path and a cable duct. We survey the ground before we quote.

460 W, 18 seconds and 30% duty on the CAME FROG-A

CAME lists 460 W and 1.9 A on a 230V, 50 or 60 Hz supply. The opening time to 90 degrees is 18 seconds. The duty rating is 30% and 11 cycles an hour, which is one full open and close every five and a half minutes. That suits a villa, and not a busy site.

IP67 and an underground motor in Omani sand, heat and flood water

IP67 means the motor is sealed against dust and can survive temporary immersion. That matters for a buried motor in Oman, where heavy rain can flood a driveway in minutes. The motor works from minus 20 to plus 55°C, with thermal protection at 150°C.

IP67 does not remove the need for drainage. A box that fills with water and sand still wears the parts, so we build a drainage path and show you how to clear the pit once a year.

Release keys and opening angle for the CAME FROG

An irreversible motor holds the leaf shut, so a manual release lets you open it in a power cut. CAME lists three release options, a lever key, a trilobe key and a customised key with a Euro DIN cylinder, and we quote the one that suits you. CAME also lists a transmission lever for openings up to 140 degrees, and a chain lever for openings up to 180 degrees on leaves up to 2 m.

CAME FROG control boards, remotes and safety

CAME names two control panels for the FROG-A.

Our kit’s remotes are the CAME TOP432EE. CAME’s own kits use the 806TS-0310 four channel and the 806TS-0300 two channel fixed code remotes. A CAME receiver pairs only with CAME handsets, so Somfy, BFT and Nice remotes cannot pair with it. Photocells stop the gate closing on a car or a person, and a flashing lamp warns people before it moves.

CAME FROG or an arm motor like the ATI A3000

You may be choosing between a buried motor and an arm motor. The table shows only what CAME and the supplier publish.

The FROG hides the motor and is better sealed, and it costs more to install because of the digging. The ATI A3000 is simpler to fit and is rated for more cycles. Ask us to compare them for your gate. See the CAME ATI A3000.

Power cuts and the CAME FROG

CAME lists the FROG-A as a 230V gearmotor. It runs on mains power, and a power cut leaves the leaf held by the irreversible gearmotor. We open it with the release key, so we keep the key where you can reach it and show everyone in the house how it works. If a battery backup matters to you, ask us, and we point you to a 24V swing motor.
