Electric Rim Lock in Oman | Surface Mounted Intercom Door Lock
A surface mounted electric rim lock that brings its own bolt, so the door needs no existing latch. It screws to the inside face of the door with no cutting anywhere. Releases from a video intercom, card reader, keypad or exit button, and a key opens it if the power fails. The usual choice on apartment and flat entrances. In stock in Muscat.
Description
An electric rim lock is a complete lock that mounts on the face of the door. It carries its own bolt, so the door needs no existing latch. A signal from a reader, intercom or push button withdraws the bolt and the door opens. We stock the electric rim lock in Oman at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat.
Electric rim lock or electric strike
A strike only releases a latch the door already has. A rim lock brings its own, which is why it suits doors with no lock fitted.
That makes the rim lock the usual choice on an apartment entrance or a flat door. An electric strike is cheaper where a mortice lock is already in place.
Where an electric rim lock is used
Apartment and flat entrances, villa side doors, offices and small clinics. Anywhere a door needs electric release but has no lock worth keeping.
It also suits a retrofit. Because nothing is cut into the door or frame, the job leaves no damage if the lock is later removed.
Electric rim lock with video intercom
This is the classic intercom door lock. The handset release button wires straight to the lock, so a resident buzzes a visitor in from upstairs.
It works the same way with a card reader or a keypad. Any device that can close a contact will release it.
What’s included
The lock body, striker plate, keys and fixing screws. The power supply, the reader or intercom and the wiring are separate.
Fitting a surface mounted rim lock
The lock screws to the inside face of the door. The striker mounts on the frame, so no deep cutting is needed anywhere.
Most units suit a left or right hand door by turning the body around. Check the bolt lines up with the striker before final fixing.
Common questions
Is a rim lock the same as an electric strike?
No. A rim lock is the whole lock. A strike is only the electrified plate that releases another lock.
Can I still open the door with a key?
Yes on a keyed unit. The mechanical override matters when power fails or the intercom is dead.
Will it work with my video intercom?
Almost always. Send us the intercom model and we will check the release output before you order.
Can I fit one to a gate?
Not this version. Gates need a weatherproof unit, so see our electric rim lock for gates instead.
