The Beninca VE SOR is a mains powered car park saver for private bays, with a 24V DC motor fed from 230V AC, intensive duty, a 9 second opening time and IP54 protection. It weighs 9 kg and works from minus 20 to plus 50°C. The listing names automatic and manual versions, so we confirm the model before sale. Supplied and fitted across Oman by Doors Auto.

Description

The Beninca VE SOR is a car park saver for private bays, and it is a different class of product from the battery locks in our range. It runs from a 230 V AC supply with a 24 V DC motor, takes a maximum of 2 A, and is rated for intensive use. It opens in about 9 seconds, weighs 9 kg and carries IP54 protection.

Two points come first. The page names two models, VE.SOR and VE.SOM, and the supplier does not say which is the automatic one. And the bay needs a mains supply, which a battery lock never does. We confirm both before we quote.

Beninca VE SOR price in Oman, and what to confirm

Price: OMR 222.000, in stock at our Muscat shop. That is about ten times the price of a battery parking lock, so it is worth knowing exactly what the money buys.

The supplier does not itemise the box. We confirm whether a radio receiver, remote controls and fixings are included, and we put the answer in writing with your quote. Fitting and the mains supply to the bay are quoted separately.

VE.SOR or VE.SOM: automatic or manual

The listing says automatic and manual versions are available. It names both VE.SOR and VE.SOM and does not say which designation belongs to which. We confirm the model before you order, so you receive the version you pay for.

Mains powered parking barrier Oman: what the bay needs

A mains unit needs three things that a battery lock does not.

The bay needsWhy
A protected 230 V AC supplyThe unit runs from mains, 50 to 60 Hz, and takes up to 2 A
A cable run in conduitThe cable must be protected where tyres and washdown water reach it
A local isolatorSo the unit can be switched off safely for service

Cabling an outdoor bay is electrician work. We quote the supply, the conduit and the isolator with the unit, so the price you see is the price you pay. A bay with no mains nearby is better served by a battery or solar lock.

Intensive duty parking lock: when it earns its price

The unit is listed for intensive use, which means it is built to cycle many times a day. That suits a reserved bay at a shop, a paid space, or a car park where vehicles come and go through the day.

Our battery locks do not state a duty rating. For one car in one villa bay, a battery lock does the job for far less. A mains unit makes sense where the lock works hard and where an owner will not remember to charge or change a battery.

A 9 second opening: what to expect at the bay

The manufacturer data gives an opening time of 9 seconds. That is perfectly normal for a barrier, and a driver waiting at the bay will notice it. A queue of cars behind a slow lock is the case to plan for, so tell us how busy the bay is.

IP54 against IP67: what the lower rating means at ground level

IP54 covers dust and splashing water. It does not cover standing water or immersion, and our battery locks are rated IP67. A unit at ground level sits where flash rain pools and where a hose runs.

We check how water drains at your bay, seal the cable entry carefully, and fit the unit so the electronics are not left in a puddle. A mains unit fails faster from water than a sealed battery lock does. That is the honest trade for intensive duty and a manufacturer name.

Minus 20 to plus 50°C in an Omani summer

The listed range tops out at 50°C. A slab in direct summer sun can run hotter than the air above it, so a bay in full sun is the demanding case. Shade helps, and we say so when we survey the bay. Coastal bays in Sohar, Sur and Salalah add salt to the heat, which attacks fixings and cable glands first.
