Parking lock with adaptor: how the mains and the battery work together

The adaptor charges a rechargeable lead acid battery for continuous operation. The lock runs from that battery, so a short power cut does not leave the arm stuck. The mains only tops the battery up.

The supplier states a battery life of 10 to 12 months. For a battery that charges all the time, we are not sure what that measures, so we confirm it with the supplier before we promise a replacement interval. The listing also does not say how long the lock runs after the mains fails.

A parking lock with adaptor outdoors: keeping the plug dry

The lock is rated IP67. The listing gives no weather rating for the adaptor, and most adaptors are made for dry indoor sockets. A plug sitting in a damp car park or a hosed driveway is the weak point of this version.

Keep a spare handset. A lost remote leaves you without a way to lower the arm, and the listing does not describe a manual release.

Yellow parking lock barrier: visibility and finish

Yellow and black is the colour code drivers already read as a warning. A driver sees the raised arm from the road, and a driver at night sees it in headlights. That reduces the chance of someone driving into it.
