Description

The BFT RME 1 BT is a single channel inductive loop detector, reading a wire loop cut into the road or driveway surface to sense a vehicle passing or parked above it. It connects to a gate or barrier control board and switches its relay when a vehicle enters or leaves the loop area.

One decision matters before you order, and it has nothing to do with the detector’s own specification. This unit covers one loop, one function. Most barrier and gate installations actually want two separate functions covered, and buying a single RME 1 BT only solves one of them.

BFT barrier safety loop: why one detector often is not enough

A vehicle loop can serve two different jobs on the same barrier or gate, and they are not interchangeable.

If your site needs both, you need either two RME 1 BT detectors, one loop and one board channel each, or a dual channel detector instead. Tell us which function your gate needs, or whether it needs both, before ordering just one.

How an inductive loop detector actually works

A loop of wire is laid in a saw cut in the ground, usually several turns, and sealed with epoxy or loop sealant. That loop forms part of an electrical circuit with a known inductance, measured in microhenries. A vehicle passing over it, being mostly metal, changes that inductance slightly, and the RME 1 BT detects the change and switches its relay.

The number of wire turns and the loop’s physical size both affect the inductance reading, which is why BFT states a working range rather than one fixed figure. Get the loop size or turn count badly wrong and the detector either misses smaller vehicles or a motorcycle, or triggers on traffic passing nearby that should not register at all.

Sensitivity is adjustable across 8 levels, trading detection of smaller vehicles like motorcycles against the risk of triggering on a car in an adjacent lane or on nearby traffic vibration. We set this during commissioning against your actual loop size and traffic pattern, then test it with the vehicles that will actually use the site rather than leave it on a factory default.

Mounting location and why the detector’s own IP rating rarely matters

This unit is designed to sit on a DIN rail or terminal strip inside the barrier or gate control panel, not exposed outdoors on its own. That means the enclosure it sits inside does the weatherproofing, not the detector itself, which is why BFT does not publish a separate IP rating for the unit. What does need checking outdoors is the loop wire’s sealant at the saw cut, since a poorly sealed loop lets water in and corrodes the connection over time, especially through an Omani rainy spell or a badly compacted driveway that lets water pool.

Do I need one or two loop detectors for my barrier?

Depends on the function. A safety loop, stopping the boom closing on a vehicle, and a trigger loop, opening automatically for an exiting car, are separate jobs. One RME 1 BT covers one function, so tell us if you need both.

What does the loop inductance range mean?

It describes the electrical range of loop sizes the detector reads correctly, based on the wire’s turns and the loop’s physical dimensions. Getting the loop built outside this range causes missed or false detections.

What power supply does the BFT RME 1 BT need?

11 to 26V, AC or DC, which covers most gate and barrier control boards without a separate power adaptor.

What is the BFT loop detector price in Oman?
