The rack decides whether the BFT ARES BT A1500 works on your gate

The kit includes four one metre lengths of nylon rack. Rack runs the full length of the gate leaf, not the width of the opening, so four metres covers a four metre leaf and no more. A gate heavy enough to need a 1500 kg motor is very often longer than that, which means extra rack on the same order or a stalled installation on the day.

Material matters more here than it does on lighter motors. Nylon rack is the light duty option, quiet and rust free, which is why it is packed in kits. Under a genuinely heavy gate most installers move to galvanised steel. We stock the BFT CVZ D571053 steel rack in one metre lengths, so tell us your leaf length and we will price the correct quantity in the right material with the motor.

Either way it must be module 4 to mesh with this pinion. Module 6 rack left over from another job will not engage.

BFT ARES BT A1500 or ARES ULTRA BT A1500, both are 1500 kg

This is the question the capacity figure cannot answer. BFT sells ARES BT A and ARES Ultra BT A as separate current families, and both reach 1500 kg. The number on your quote does not tell you which one you are being sold.

The separation is speed and specification. This unit runs at 9 m/min. BFT quotes Ares Ultra BT A at up to 12 m/min. If two suppliers quote you an Ares 1500 and the prices differ noticeably, that gap is usually the family, not the margin. Check the product code, which on this motor is P926188 00002.

Neither is old stock. Both families are current, so this is a specification choice rather than a new against superseded choice.

Stepping up from the ARES BT A1000 to the BFT ARES BT A1500

Worth knowing before you pay the difference, because the step up does not buy what most people assume.

The speed is identical. What the extra money buys is headroom, a better sealed casing, and magnetic limit switches instead of mechanical ones. If your gate sits comfortably under 1000 kg and speed is not the issue, the ARES BT A1000 kit does the same job for less. If the gate is solid sheet, long, or on a site that takes weather, the step up earns itself.

IP44 and dust, siting a BFT sliding gate motor in Oman

IP44 is a genuine improvement on the IP24 of the smaller Ares, and it is worth reading properly rather than treating as a pass mark.

The second digit of 4 means the casing resists splashing water from any direction. The first digit of 4 means protection against solid objects above 1 mm. That is wire and grit, not dust. Dust protection starts at 5 and dust tight is 6, and this motor is neither.

On a villa gate in Muscat that is fine. On an exposed roadside or industrial entrance in Nizwa, Sohar or Duqm, set the operator on its foundation clear of ground level so it is not sitting in drift, keep the cover seal and cable glands intact, and book a service clean rather than waiting for a fault. The 55 C upper limit is real too, so give it shade where the site allows.

Magnetic limit switches and the MERAK board on the BFT ARES BT A1500

Two specifications here are quietly the reason this motor lasts longer than its rating suggests.

Magnetic limit switches have no moving contact to wear or bend. Mechanical limits drift out of adjustment over years of use, particularly on a heavy gate that shakes the housing on every stop, and drifting limits are one of the most common service calls we attend. Magnetic ones largely remove that.

The control unit is MERAK, not the HAMAL used on the smaller Ares. That matters for spares rather than for daily use. Keep the board name with your paperwork, because a gate that hums without moving or has stopped learning remotes is very often the board rather than the gearbox, and we stock BFT boards under BFT accessories.

Interconnectivity is listed as supported on both the supplier data and BFT dealer data, but neither states what it connects to. If you intend to link two operators or run a networked setup, confirm the detail with us before ordering rather than assuming it.

Not included, and worth pricing now: backup batteries, the concrete foundation and its cable ducting, rack beyond four metres, steel rack if you upgrade, a keypad or card reader, and any mains work to the gate position. Extra transmitters are listed under BFT remotes.

The 24V motor is what makes backup batteries worth adding on a gate this size. A 1500 kg leaf is not something you want to be pushing by hand on release every time the power drops.

At this weight the groundwork is the job. A level foundation at the correct height and offset, ducting laid before the concrete, rack aligned so the pinion carries the drive rather than the gate hanging on it, and slowdown tuned to the actual leaf weight rather than left at default.
