Somfy swing gate motor 400kg: what per leaf really means

The 400 kg and 4 metre ratings apply to each leaf, not to the whole gate. A double gate of two 4 metre leaves is an 8 metre opening, and each motor carries only its own leaf.

Treat every published rating as a ceiling. A swing leaf that is stiff on its hinges will not run better under a motor, and a solid leaf catches wind like a sail.

Pillar depth and opening angle: what we measure before we fit

An arm mounted swing motor needs clear depth from the hinge to the inside face of the pillar, so the actuator can travel through its full stroke. A shallow pillar stops the leaf short of the angle you want, whatever the motor can lift.

Somfy does not publish the stroke or the opening angle on this listing. We send you a measuring list, hinge to pillar face on both sides, and we confirm fit before you order. Send photos of both pillars with a tape across the depth.

Somfy RTS swing gate kit: handsets, 128 channels and compatibility

Somfy RTS transmits on 433.42 MHz with its own rolling code. BFT Mitto handsets use 433.92 MHz, and Nice and Came use their own coding. The radios cannot hear each other.

The board remembers up to 128 channels, which suits a large household or a compound. Somfy RTS handsets typically use one channel per button. Moving a site to Somfy means new handsets for everyone, so tell us how many people use the gate. The same RTS system runs our Somfy sliding gate motors, so one handset family covers both.

A linear actuator at 18 mm per second: what that means for opening time

Somfy gives actuator speed, not opening time, and says the real time depends on the gate geometry. A longer arm throw or a wider opening angle takes more seconds. We measure the time on your gate when we set the limits.

The listing says the board supports add on modules for GSM, WiFi, RFID and keypad control. Supported does not mean included, so we confirm which modules we stock and what they cost.

The kit includes a photocell pair. A safety edge is not included and is worth adding where a leaf swings toward a footpath. We set the closing force and test obstacle reaction with the leaf moving, never on the bench.

IP54 covers splashing but not standing water, so we mount the actuators clear of pooling water. Coastal sites in Sohar, Sur and Salalah add salt, which attacks pivots first. The listed range reaches plus 55°C, and a mains motor in an Omani summer works near that ceiling. Battery backup is not stated, so we confirm it before we promise it in a power cut.
