The CAME LOCK81 (code CAME 001LOCK81) is a 12V electric lock for automatic gates: an electric gate lock that latches the leaf shut when the gate closes and releases it the moment the motor starts to open. It is the classic swing gate lock for holding leaves closed against wind, pushing and forcing, with a key cylinder on one side for manual release.

This swing gate lock runs on 12V AC/DC, is rated IP44 and galvanised against rust, and comes with its strike plates, rectifier bridge, screws and three keys.

Why fit an electric gate lock on an automatic gate?

A gate motor holds a gate closed only as well as its own gearbox allows. Long swing leaves catch the wind like sails, and some motors can be pushed back by hand. An electric gate lock adds a mechanical latch that does not depend on the motor at all.

A swing gate lock matters most on double leaves over 2 m, on solid sheet leaves that catch the wind, and on gates facing open ground where the shamal blows. On a sliding gate the motor and the rack usually hold the gate shut, so a lock is less common there, but it can still add security on a compound.

Which boards can power a 12V electric lock?

The lock needs a 12V supply at the moment the gate opens. Many CAME control boards have a dedicated electric lock output for this. Boards without one can drive the lock through a relay and a 12V supply. Send us a photo of your board and we tell you which way your gate needs.

Many CAME boards also have a function that pushes the leaf closed for a moment before opening. That takes the pressure off the latch, so the electric gate lock releases cleanly even when wind is pressing on the leaf. Our engineers set this when they fit the lock.

Swing gate lock: LOCK81 single cylinder or LOCK82 double cylinder

CAME makes the lock in two versions. The difference is where you can open it with a key.

For most homes in Oman, the single cylinder CAME LOCK81 is the right swing gate lock. If you need to open the gate by hand from the street during a power cut, ask us about the LOCK82.

How we fit the CAME LOCK81 electric gate lock

• We fix the lock on the leaf, at a height where it meets the strike plate cleanly.
• We fix the strike plate on the pillar, or the ground strike plate in the drive, so the latch engages as the leaf closes.
• We run the cable from the board to the leaf with a flexible link at the hinge, so it does not break as the gate swings.
• We connect the electric gate lock to the board’s lock output, with the rectifier bridge where CAME’s wiring calls for it.
• We set the board to release the lock on every opening, then test with wind on the leaf and with the key.

The lock is galvanised and rated IP44, and works from minus 40 to plus 70°C. Even so, the moving latch is exposed to sand and salt.
