A standalone access control reader holds its own card list and switches the lock itself. Nothing else is needed to make the door work. We stock the standalone access control reader in Oman at our shop in Al Khuwair, Muscat.
Standalone means no controller
Most card readers are dumb. They read a number and pass it to a controller, which makes the decision.
A standalone reader does both jobs in one box. It stores the users, checks the card and closes the relay that drops the lock.
Where a standalone access control reader fits
One door, a handful of users, no reporting. A stock room, a site office, a clinic back door.
It suits a first door too. If the site grows past a few doors, a controller and separate readers make more sense.
What you still need
A lock, a power supply and an exit button inside. Cards or fobs for each person complete it.
The reader replaces the controller, not the rest of the door. Budget for those four parts either way.
Fitting a standalone access control reader
Mount it beside the door at card height and run the lock wiring back inside. The relay sits in the reader, so that cable carries the release.
Enrol the master card first, then the users. Test one card end to end before loading a staff list.
The security trade off
Everything sits in one box on the outside wall. That includes the relay that releases the lock.
On an exposed entrance, a reader outside and a controller inside is the safer arrangement. On an internal door it rarely matters.
Common questions
Do I need a separate controller?
No. That is the point of a standalone unit. It is also why it costs less than a reader plus a controller.
How is this different from the access control panel?
Both work alone. Send us your user count and door details and we will say which suits.
How many cards will it hold?
Standalone units vary widely. Tell us your staff number before you order and we will check.
Can I add a second door later?
Not to this unit. A second door needs its own reader or a multi door controller.
