The Somfy Keytis 4 RTS is a four channel pocket remote control for Somfy RTS gates, garage doors, roller shutters and blinds. It runs on Somfy RTS, comes with a CR2430 battery already supplied and ships with four colour clips. Somfy lists it as a secondary remote, which means it is paired through a handset that already works.

Two points come first. It pairs only with Somfy RTS equipment, so it will not work with BFT, Nice, Came or Somfy io homecontrol. And because it is a secondary remote, bring an existing working Somfy handset when you buy it.

Somfy RTS remote control: what RTS means and what it pairs with

RTS stands for Radio Technology Somfy. It transmits on 433.42 MHz with a rolling code, so each press sends a different signal. Somfy io homecontrol is a separate system on 868 to 870 MHz. The two cannot talk to each other.

BFT, Nice and Came each use their own coding as well. A handset from one brand cannot pair with a receiver from another, even when the frequency looks close.

Somfy secondary remote: why you need a working handset first

Somfy lists the Keytis 4 RTS as a handset that must be associated with a main transmitter. In practice that means you pair it using a Somfy RTS handset that already controls your gate or door, then the new handset copies that setup.

If you still own a working Somfy handset, bring it with you and we pair the Keytis in the shop. If you have lost every handset, tell us the motor model. We will say which handset to start from, because the Keytis may not be able to start the process alone.

Four channel Somfy remote: how to use the buttons

Each of the four buttons can be paired with a different Somfy RTS receiver. A typical setup gives one button to the main gate, one to a garage door, one to a shutter and one to a light or a spare.

Every button you pair takes one place in that motor’s remote memory. The Somfy Ixengo L 24V remembers up to 40 channels and the Ixengo JL and JS remember 128, so a normal household is well within the limit.

Somfy Keytis 4 or Keygo 4: which Somfy RTS handset to buy

Both have four buttons and both run on Somfy RTS. The Keytis 4 ships with colour clips and a battery. The Keygo 4 has a metal ring for a key bunch.

Choose the Keytis 4 for a pocket or sun visor handset that runs up to four things. Choose the Keygo 4 if it will live on your key bunch. Choose the Keytis 2 if one gate and one garage are all you need.

Because every Somfy RTS receiver listens for the same kind of signal, one handset can run a gate, a garage door and the roller shutters of a villa. That makes the Keytis 4 a tidy single remote for a whole property, as long as each receiver is Somfy RTS.

Range and signal for a Somfy RTS handset

The listing does not publish a range, so we do not quote one. Range always depends on the site. Walls, a metal gate leaf, a parked car and other radio noise all cut it down.

For most villa driveways that is not a problem. If a receiver sits deep inside a building, tell us before you order and we will say where its aerial should go.

CR2430 battery and your Somfy remote in the Omani heat

The Keytis runs on a CR2430 3V coin cell, which is supplied in the box and easy to replace. A handset left on a car dashboard in summer sees far more heat than it was designed for, and the battery loses life faster. Keep it on a sun visor clip or in a bag, not in direct sun.

Weak range or a button that works only sometimes usually means a tired battery, not a faulty remote. Replace the cell first.
