BFT’s own Deimos BT A family is built in two capacities, 400 kg and 600 kg. There is no 500 kg model in their catalogue. This unit is sold widely under a 500 kg label, and its published specification matches the Deimos BT A class exactly, but the number itself does not correspond to a BFT product code.

We are telling you this rather than quietly printing the label, because it matters later. Warranty claims, spare boards and replacement limit switches are all ordered against BFT’s real model code, not a reseller’s rounded figure. Read the plate on the operator, or send us a photo of it, and we will confirm in writing which unit you actually own before you buy.

None of that makes it a bad motor. The specification underneath is genuine Deimos and the gearbox is the same one BFT ships at 400 kg and 600 kg. It just means you should know its real name.

BFT Deimos BT A400 and A600, where the Deimos 500 sits

Rather than choose by the badge, choose by the gate. The Deimos BT A gearbox is rated to 20 Nm of torque and runs at 12 m/min, and it is the same mechanism across the family. What changes between A400 and A600 is the weight BFT will warrant behind it.

BFT also runs Deimos Ultra BT A as a separate current family at the same 600 kg ceiling. Its listed advantages are magnetic limit switches and U Link integration rather than more capacity. If you are comparing quotes and one is noticeably dearer, that is usually the difference.

If your gate is genuinely near or above 600 kg, do not buy at the edge of a Deimos. Move to the Ares range, starting with the ARES BT A1000 kit, and see the wider range in BFT sliding gate motors.

What the BFT Deimos 500 does on a sliding gate

It is a rack and pinion operator that bolts to a foundation beside the gate and drives the leaf along its track. The motor runs on 24V while the control board takes 230V mains, which is the arrangement that allows backup batteries to be added later.

The gearbox is irreversible, meaning the gate is held closed by the drive itself and no separate electric lock is needed. A mechanical release knob lets you push the gate by hand in a power cut. The QSC D MA control unit sits at the front of the casing for access, carries a two channel rolling code receiver so no external receiver box is needed, and handles self learning setup and self diagnostics.

Obstacle reaction is by electronic torque limiting. The board watches motor effort and reverses on contact. That protects the gate and the mechanism. It reacts after contact, not before, so the photocells are what protect people and they must never be left unwired.

Two ceilings apply and the one people miss is the length. The maximum leaf is **6 m**, and on a lot of Omani villa and compound gates that binds before the weight does. Measure the leaf itself, not the opening. A 7 m gate is out regardless of how light it is.

On weight, treat the rating as a ceiling and not a target. It assumes a gate running true on sound wheels and a clean level track. A gate that needs a shove by hand today will not improve under a motor, and the failure will come at the gate, not the gearbox. Sort the track and the wheels first.

Wind is the factor nobody quotes for. A solid sheet infill gate catches wind like a sail and that load lands on the pinion. Where a gate is solid rather than barred, size up rather than sit on the limit.

IP24 and dust, siting a BFT Deimos sliding gate motor in Oman

IP24 is quoted everywhere and explained nowhere. The 4 means the casing resists splashing water from any direction. The 2 means it is protected only against solid objects above 12.5 mm. There is no dust protection in that rating at all.

On a sheltered villa gate in Muscat that is manageable. On an exposed roadside gate in Nizwa, Sohar or Duqm that takes blown sand, plan for it. Set the operator on its foundation clear of ground level so it is not standing in drift, keep the cover seal and the cable glands intact, and put a service clean in the calendar rather than waiting for a fault. The 50 C upper limit is a real ceiling too, so give it shade where the site allows.

BFT Deimos 500 kit contents, and what is not included

The supplier does not itemise the kit, so we will not either. What we can confirm is that the operator carries its control unit and a two channel rolling code receiver built in, so no separate receiver is needed.

Assume the following are not included until we confirm your specific box: rack of any length, backup batteries, photocells, a flashing light, a push button, the concrete foundation and its ducting, and any mains work to the gate position. Rack must be module 4 to mesh with the 14 tooth pinion, and it runs the full length of the leaf rather than the opening width. BFT Deimos 500 installation across Oman

Most of the work on a sliding gate is not the motor. It is a level foundation set at the right height and offset, ducting run before the concrete goes down, rack aligned so the pinion carries the drive rather than the gate hanging on it, and limits set and tested against the real leaf weight.

Both reach 600 kg, so capacity is not the difference. BFT lists Deimos Ultra BT A with magnetic limit switches and U Link integration, which is usually what a price gap between two Deimos quotes represents.
