The Somfy Elixo 800 is a 230V sliding gate motor kit for gates up to 800 kg and 10 metres long. It draws 300W maximum and moves a gate 3 metres in about 21 seconds. The kit is complete enough to commission a gate, with remotes, photocells, a flashing light and rack in the box.

Two checks come first. The rack in the kit is nylon, so confirm its rating against your gate weight. And the handsets speak Somfy RTS, which no BFT or Nice receiver will accept.

Nylon rack under an 800 kg gate: check the rating first

Rack runs the full leaf length, not the opening width. Four 1 metre pieces cover a leaf up to 4 metres, and the motor is rated to 10 metres, so most real gates need more rack than the kit provides.

Nylon runs quietly and does not corrode, but it carries less load than steel. Our BFT nylon rack is rated to 600 kg and our steel rack to 1000 kg. Somfy does not state the rating of the kit rack on the listing, so we confirm it before we recommend nylon under an 800 kg leaf.

The Elixo range is not one design in three sizes. The motor type and the rack in the box change between models.

How fast the Elixo 800 moves your gate

Somfy states about 21 seconds for 3 metres. These travel times are our own calculation from that figure at constant speed, so treat them as a guide.

That is a measured pace for a heavy gate, not a fast one. A driveway used by delivery vans will notice it. Add a few seconds for the slowdown at each end.

Somfy RTS remote Oman: Keytis handsets and 433.42 MHz

Somfy RTS transmits on 433.42 MHz with its own rolling code. BFT Mitto handsets use 433.92 MHz, and Nice and Came use their own coding, so they cannot pair with this motor. The two Keytis handsets in the box cover a small household.

A compound or a staff entrance needs more handsets, so tell us how many people use the gate. Moving an existing site to Somfy means new handsets for everyone.

Somfy Elixo 800 specification

Photocells, the flashing light and the missing safety edge

The kit includes a photocell pair and an orange flashing light. The listing confirms photocell inputs, but it does not state a safety edge input the way the Elixo 500 does. On a heavy gate that people walk past, we check this before quoting.

We set the closing force and test obstacle reaction with the gate loaded and moving, never on the bench. Photocell alignment causes most reversing complaints, and our Compacta A20 page explains why.

A 300W motor, the circuit and the Omani summer

At 300W the Elixo 800 is light on the supply for its weight class. It still needs its own protected circuit and a local isolator within sight of the motor. IP44 handles splashing water but not standing water, so we mount the motor on a raised plinth.

Blown sand packs into rack teeth and track, so brush both periodically. Coastal sites in Sohar, Sur and Salalah add salt, which corrodes fixings. Inland at Nizwa and Duqm, summer heat matters, though the stated range to plus 60°C covers most Omani summers.
